MEDIA ADVISORY McMaster Teaching and Research Assistants Hold Information Picket in Downtown Toronto: CUPE 3906

HAMILTON, Ontario--()--Striking teaching and research assistants at McMaster University hold an information picket outside a new development by the university in downtown Toronto.

The university workers, members of CUPE Local 3906, are calling the demonstration an opportunity to connect with members who live in Toronto as opposed to Hamilton; and to highlight the university’s financial commitments at a time when TAs and RAs are calling for better wages.

The union is on strike for wage increases; extended funding and guaranteed work; protection against wages being lost to tuition increases in the form of reimbursements; and a closing of the pay gap between graduate and undergraduate assistants.

Teaching and Research Assistants at McMaster University, members of CUPE Local 3906; members of CUPE Local 3902, representing sessionals, music professionals, writing instructors, and instructional assistants at the University of Toronto; and members of CUPE Local 3903, representing TAs and RAs at York University.
