The White Coat Award recognizes health systems, pharmacies, pharmacy technology vendors and electronic health records (EHR) vendors that help deliver clear and accurate electronic prescribing, eliminate confusion and time-consuming phone calls and faxes, and give patients access to the medications they need.

"It is an honor to be recognized again as an industry leader for CenterWell Pharmacy’s strong commitment to both quality of care and safety through prescription accuracy,” said Michael Taday, Senior Vice President of CenterWell Pharmacy. “We take pride in providing a hassle and worry-free experience for both providers and patients as we bring the pharmacy to the front doors of our customers, shipping medications safely and on time.”

The 2022 Surescripts White Coat Award recognizes winners in three categories:

  • The Highest Accuracy award recognizes the best overall accuracy score.
  • The Structured & Codified Sig Champion award recognizes organizations making the best use of the Structured & Codified Sig field.
  • The RxChange Champion award highlights organizations successfully advancing the RxChange transaction.

The Structured & Codified Sig field standardizes directions for medication use, which streamlines prescribing and dispensing while reducing the opportunity for errors. As of the end of 2021, 23% of EHRs were using the Structured & Codified Sig field, up from 11% in January 2021.

RxChange lets pharmacies communicate with prescribers to resolve prescription concerns within their electronic workflow. In 2021, Surescripts measured a 40% RxChange response rate networkwide, up from 32% in 2020.

White Coat Award winners are evaluated based on data provided by Surescripts Sentinel®, an automated system that monitors electronic prescriptions and delivers insights to pharmacies, health systems and technology vendors. In 2021, the Surescripts Network Alliance saw a 10% increase in the aggregated Quality Index Score for electronic prescriptions across the network—a 200% improvement since 2016.
