LOS ANGELES--()--Age of Learning, the leading education technology innovator and creator of the widely popular ABCmouse online learning program, today released a new research report that found pre-kindergarten students who used Age of Learning’s My Math Academy significantly improved their school readiness in math during the 2020-2021 school year.

As the research report describes, 98% of pre-k students in the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District (HCISD), a Title I district in Texas, who were regular users of My Math Academy ended the 2020-2021 school year “On Track” in math, the highest possible benchmark on CIRCLE Progress Monitoring System, the state-administered assessment approved by the Texas Board of Education1. These students were significantly more likely to reach that benchmark compared to their peers who did not use the program.

The data was collected during a school year disrupted by the pandemic, with mixed remote and in-person learning in HCISD. According to the district, in fall 2020, 61 percent of these pre-k children had been classified as “at-risk,” meaning that they did not perform satisfactorily on a readiness assessment administered early in the school year.

“This study adds to the substantial body of evidence that demonstrates that My Math Academy accelerates learning, empowers educators to address learner variability, and drives measurable outcomes for students,” said Sunil Gunderia, Chief Innovation Officer at Age of Learning. “These results in Harlingen would be remarkable in a normal academic year, let alone one that was disrupted by the pandemic.”

“This data proves what we have witnessed every day in Harlingen. Our students are mastering math skills, building a love of learning, and developing a strong academic foundation for years to come,” said Carmen Alvarez, Early Childhood Director at Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District. “My Math Academy has proven to solve for learner variability, which is the biggest challenge our teachers face in their classroom. We are continuing to expand its implementation throughout our elementary schools so more of our students can benefit from it.”

A previously released study in Harlingen found that a substantial proportion of pre-k students using My Math Academy achieved not only their grade-level standards but also progressed well beyond grade level.

My Math Academy has been certified as meeting the highest level of evidence standards under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), Tier 1, Strong Evidence, and the program meets all ESSER and Title I funding requirements.

1 The CIRCLE Progress Monitoring System provides three benchmarks: “On Track,” “Needs Support/Monitor,” and “Out of Range.” “On Track” indicates that a child has developed understanding and that the child will benefit from continued targeted instruction. “Needs Support/ Monitor” indicates an underdeveloped understanding. “Out of Range” indicates that the child is not within the specified age range or there are no established thresholds.
