PHILADELPHIA--()--Phenom, the global leader in Talent Experience Management (TXM), and Talent Board today released their 2021 State of Recruiter & Hiring Manager Collaboration report, revealing critical talent acquisition challenges across departments. Based on a survey of nearly 300 recruiters, talent acquisition specialists and talent acquisition leaders, the report’s findings indicate that technology like artificial intelligence and automation can help organizations better navigate today’s frenetic hiring environment.

The ability to quickly acquire best-fit talent hinges on an exceptional rapport between recruiters and hiring managers. While the majority of survey respondents say they are satisfied with this dynamic, they also identified areas where it could continue to grow:

  • UNREALISTIC EXPECTATIONS: Over half of recruiters (56%) say unrealistic expectations are a roadblock when syncing with hiring managers.
  • PROLONGED RESUME REVIEWS: The majority of respondents (67%) say it takes hiring managers at least two working days to provide feedback after receiving a resume.
  • FEEDBACK DELAYS: 59% of respondents say it takes two or more working days for hiring managers to debrief after a candidate interview.
  • UNCLEAR CANDIDATE CRITERIA: Most recruiters (46%) report difficulty distinguishing essential skills and experience from non-critical criteria when working with hiring managers.

Despite these communication pain points, 45% of recruiters still depend solely on basic email/messaging software — and only 13% are considering more advanced technologies to streamline the exchange of real-time feedback. In today’s intense labor market, candidates are at higher risk of being poached before they receive an offer. Routinely delaying feedback and poorly communicating expectations can extend the hiring process by weeks, putting companies at a competitive disadvantage. The only way organizations can reduce the time and cost to hire is by embracing a holistic approach to the talent experience — fueled by AI and automation — that streamlines collaboration.

“Managers and recruiters make or break the talent experience,” said Jonathan Dale, vice president of marketing at Phenom. “Companies that formally recognize and facilitate better dynamics between candidates, recruiters, employees and managers, will achieve unmatched hiring advantages.”

“Strong alignment between recruiters and hiring managers is essential to hire effectively today — and neither has to do it alone," said Kevin Grossman, president of Talent Board. "Our report shows how these stakeholders can work more efficiently together while delivering an unrivaled candidate experience that benefits the organization as a whole."
