IFALPA Participates in ICAO HLCC – High-level Conference on COVID-19

MONTREAL--()--IFALPA welcomed the declaration made today by the Ministers participating in the International Civil Aviation Organisation’s (ICAO) High-level Conference on COVID (HLCC) to address the global crisis in aviation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

With Airports Council International (ACI), the Civil Air Navigation Services Organisation (CANSO), the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the International Business Aviation Council (IBAC), International Coordinating Council of Aerospace Industries Associations (ICCAIA), and the International Federation of Air Traffic Controllers' Associations (IFATCA), IFALPA issued a statement welcoming Ministers’ commitment to taking effective measures to safely restore international connectivity and support the revival of the global economy.

The statement also highlighted the need to implement risk-based, pragmatic approaches such as mutual recognition of vaccines and interoperable solutions for proof of health status, and emphasised industry’s willingness to work with ICAO and States to support the recovery of the aviation sector.

Reinforcing industry’s commitment to address climate change, the statement also highlighted recent commitments made by industry for global civil aviation operations to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

This statement comes as world government and industry stakeholders conclude the two-week long HLCC that centred on round-table sessions bringing together Ministers of Transport and Health with senior civil aerospace sector leaders. “The High-level Conference on COVID-19 has reinforced the alignment between States and industry in many areas of safety and facilitation and the pilot community looks forward to working with ICAO and States to implement the recommendations, not only to help the industry recover, but to ensure resilience for any future crises,” said IFALPA President Jack Netskar.
