Cancer Survivor, Caregiver Rethink Recovery, Launch RecoverEase Post-Surgical Garments for Drainage Bulb Comfort, Simplicity

DENVER--()--In time for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, survivor Lauren May Woodruff and her recovery caregiver and friend Hannah Kenny have launched RecoverEase, a new line of garments that rethink and improve patients’ post-operative drain management.

After her double mastectomy, Woodruff suffered from nerve pain, prohibitive range of motion, and the emotional fatigue of managing four drain bulbs, pain boluses and lengthy tubing sewn into her skin. Her discomfort was amplified by the industry-standard recovery garment women must wear constantly for weeks following their procedure.

She recalls her own clothing not fitting over the drains; tubes getting caught on door handles or tangled when she slept, creating trauma to the drain port site and increased pain and bleeding. RecoverEase, a long-wearing, multi-functional garment that gives patients infinite options in drain placement, solves all of these problems.

“RecoverEase is a wonderfully simple, pragmatic, patient-focused upgrade to the unwieldy aspect of drain management,” states Ms. Woodruff. “The entire double mastectomy process was physically disempowering for me, especially running a horse farm; as a professional I was utterly impacted. With RecoverEase, we are excited to offer a new garment that allows women to reclaim life and independence sooner.”

RecoverEase’s proprietary, four-way stretch fabric is anti-bacterial, washable, durable and soft enough for healing skin. Unlike tank top-style garments that are difficult to get into, RecoverEase is a step-in tube that does not impact the surgical site and is worn under the patient’s own clothes. A wraparound pocket securely holds all drain bulbs and tubing gently against the body, thus preventing the system from dragging down, snagging or pulling on skin.

“Major surgical recovery is inherently uncomfortable and painful; further, a double mastectomy is a traumatic experience that fundamentally alters the patient’s quality of life. We hope to make it less so for future patients,” says Lauren.
