Commonwealth Care Alliance® Introduces Range of Medicare Plans for Rhode Islanders in First-Ever Expansion Outside Massachusetts

CCA’s Medicare Plans combine medical, dental and prescription drug benefits, while offering additional benefits such as identity theft protection, grocery delivery services and more

PROVIDENCE, R.I.--()--In advance of the Medicare annual Open Enrollment Period beginning on Friday, Oct. 15, Commonwealth Care Alliance® (CCA), a nationally recognized not-for-profit, community-based, integrated healthcare organization focused on care and coordination for high-cost, high-needs individuals, has announced the details and benefits of its range of Medicare plans for Rhode Islanders.

CCA, which currently serves nearly 42,000 members in Massachusetts, is entering the Rhode Island market with two Medicare Advantage (PPO) plans and a Medicare Special Needs (HMO D-SNP) plan. Each of these options combines medical, dental, and prescription drug benefits, and was specifically designed to help eligible beneficiaries live safely and independently in their own homes, while lowering their out-of-pocket costs. These are the first health plans CCA has offered to Rhode Island residents and mark the organization’s first-ever expansion outside of Massachusetts.

“We are entering the Rhode Island market because we believe in our community-based, uncommon approach to care, which has demonstrated nation-leading success in improving health outcomes for individuals with significant needs,” said Christopher D. Palmieri, CEO and President, Commonwealth Care Alliance. “There is a clear demand for choice in Rhode Island when it comes to affordable, accessible care for traditionally high-cost, high-risk individuals, and the range of health plans we are introducing were specifically designed to fill that need. We look forward to building relationships with Medicare- and Medicaid-eligible Rhode Islanders in the coming weeks, and delivering comprehensive care to those who need it most.”

Plans, Benefits, and Eligibility:

CCA’s two Medicare Advantage Plans – CCA Medicare Preferred and CCA Medicare Value – are available to individuals who live in Rhode Island and are eligible for Medicare. CCA’s Medicare Special Needs Plan – CCA Medicare Maximum – is available to Rhode Islanders who are eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid.

Starting at $0 per month, these coverage options include a wide range of no-cost benefits such as $0 primary copays; $0 routine dental and vision care; $0 prescription and over-the-counter drugs; and more. Depending on the plan, CCA members may also be eligible for added benefits such as identity theft protection, grocery delivery service, and in-home support for non-medical services.

“We know that Rhode Islanders with significant needs, especially older adults and adults living with disabilities, require far more than the traditional medical benefits included in basic Medicare and Medicaid plans in order to stay healthy and lead their lives independently,” said Corey McCarty, Rhode Island General Manager, Commonwealth Care Alliance. “That’s why we’ve designed our health plans to provide our members with multiple affordable access points to the care they need, while also including added benefits that address and help solve for disparities in social determinants of health such as access to housing, healthy food and behavioral and mental health services.”

A full list of benefits included in CCA Medicare Preferred, CCA Medicare Value, and CCA Medicare Maximum can be found at www.CCARhodeIsland.org. Rhode Islanders can enroll in CCA’s plans beginning on Friday, Oct. 15 by calling 855-210-1815, or by applying online at www.CCARhodeIsland.org/become-a-member.

In addition to its new Rhode Island coverage options, CCA will also complement its existing health plan offerings in Massachusetts during this year’s enrollment period with the launch of two new Medicare Advantage (PPO) plans. Details on those plans can be found at www.CCAMassachusetts.org.
