MISSISSAUGA, Ontario--()--Nissan Canada and JD Promotion & Compétition today unveiled the revised schedule for the 2021 Nissan Sentra Cup. The original schedule has been altered after event cancellations were announced due to the pandemic. The new schedule still includes six events with two races each weekend. The series, which features the all-new Nissan Sentra will kick off on June 25-27 at Shannonville Motorsport Park, Ontario.

Built in 1979 and located East of Belleville, Shannonville Motorsport Park will have the honour of staging the first race in the series' history. Ontario’s Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, the original site of the season’s opener will welcome the Nissan Sentra Cup on Labour Day weekend, September 3-5.

The four subsequent events initially scheduled will still take place, ensuring that the 2021 Nissan Sentra Cup will offer a well-balanced schedule featuring two events in Ontario and four in Québec. After Shannonville (June 25-27), the series will travel to Circuit Mont-Tremblant for the traditional Summer Classic (July 23-25). The season's halfway mark will be reached at the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières (August 13-15), before the competitors tackle Complexe ICAR (August 28-29) and then the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (September 3-5), as part of the highly popular NASCAR weekend. The season will conclude September 24-26 at Circuit Mont-Tremblant for the Fall Classic.

“While adjusting the schedule, it was crucial to maintain an event at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, because it is close to Nissan Canada headquarters and this legendary track meets the expectations of our drivers,” says Jacques Deshaies the series’ promoter. “I am also very proud to see that despite the cancellation of the Canadian Grand Prix, where the Nissan Sentra Cup was supposed to compete but will return to our schedule in 2022, we managed to guarantee our drivers a full season with the addition of the Shannonville event. This allows us to keep a total of 12 races, all of which will be broadcast on RDS in Québec for the enjoyment of our drivers and fans."

Professional race car driver Jean-François Dumoulin was responsible for developing the new Sentra and the first race-ready cars have now been shipped to the competitors. As of today, nearly 20 drivers are participating in the Sentra Cup, with the rest of the track filled with Micra drivers. "Several drivers didn't wait long to complete a few laps with their new Sentra and the feedback we're getting is excellent,” says Deshaies. “Everyone is thrilled with the performance and feel of their Sentra. It's almost a production car, with the addition of some racing components, but drivers keep saying that the Sentra Cup is going to be really spectacular on Canadian tracks this season."

About 30 drivers are expected to compete in the 2021 Nissan Sentra Cup season. For more information, visit the series' social media channels and the web site of the series at sentracup.com.
