LOUISVILLE, Ky.--()--GE Appliances (GEA), a Haier company, has again achieved a perfect score on the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index (CEI), earning the designation as a “Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality” for the fourth year in a row.

Delivering an inclusive company culture for employees that commits to the policies, practices, and workplace benefits supportive of each and every person on our team is at the heart of this business," said Kevin Nolan, president and CEO of GE Appliances. "Being recognized once again as a Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality reflects our strong commitment at GE Appliances to putting people first at a place where everyone has a seat at the table and all backgrounds are welcomed and valued."

The annual CEI benchmarking tool assesses the equality of a company’s policies and practices related to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer employees. To earn a perfect score, businesses must have inclusive policies and practices that include transgender-inclusive healthcare, domestic partner benefits, public engagement and community support for LGBTQ events, non-discriminatory hiring and recruitment, and LGBTQ supplier diversity initiatives.

In addition, as part of the CEI, companies’ overall corporate citizenship commitments are evaluated. Released earlier this month, GE Appliances published its first-ever Corporate Citizenship Report. Outlined in the report are the company's goals and progress in key areas, such as inclusion and diversity, that reflect GEA's priorities and serve as a foundation for the company’s citizenship work. As part its continued progress, GEA recently expanded gender-neutral paid parental leave to 12 weeks, a commitment giving every parent, including LGBTQ families, more time with their new family member.

From the previously unimaginable impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, to a long overdue reckoning with racial injustice, 2020 was an unprecedented year. Yet, many businesses across the nation stepped up and continued to prioritize and champion LGBTQ equality,” said Alphonso David, president of the Human Rights Campaign. This year has shown us that tools like the CEI are crucial in the work to increase equity and inclusion in the workplace, but also that companies must breathe life into these policies and practices in real and tangible ways. Thank you to the companies that understand protecting their LGBTQ employees and consumers from discrimination is not just the right thing to do—but the best business decision.”

GE Appliances joins 766 other major U.S. businesses earning top marks this year in the CEI, which serves as a trusted guide used to decide where to work and what businesses to support based on corporate values and culture.
