SAN DIEGO & CANBERRA, Australia--()--Liquid Instruments, an innovator in precision software-defined test and measurement instrumentation, today announced that Doug Phillips, formerly of Texas Instruments, has been named Vice President of Marketing, along with the additions of former Los Alamos National Laboratory Director, Charles McMillan, Ph.D., and accomplished electronics industry executive, Saar Gillai, to its growing Board of Directors.

Following its successful Series A funding round in 2019, Liquid Instruments’ founding team of experimental physicists and engineers, including former researchers from NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, accelerated product development and continued to pursue growth in the R&D, education and industrial markets across the U.S., Europe and Asia. With these new industry veterans on board, Liquid Instruments is now primed to build upon that growth and increase its presence in new markets.

“Doug comes to us with decades of experience in taking innovative technologies and developing a creative strategy to unlock their potential in the market, which will prove to be invaluable as our team furthers the mission to re-invent the test and measurement industry worldwide,” said Professor Daniel Shaddock, CEO of Liquid Instruments. “Along with the new appointments of two well-respected and proven authorities within the R&D and technology sectors to our board, we are in an ideal position to establish ourselves as market leaders in modern instrumentation solutions.”

Phillips will leverage his extensive ecosystem partnerships and product development experience at Texas Instruments to continue platform adoption and expansion of Liquid Instruments’ global customer base. During his tenure at Texas Instruments, Phillips successfully grew the market share of TI technology use in leading engineering university curriculum worldwide. He also oversaw the product development and introduction of several prominent power management solutions. His experience growing sales and engagement within the global higher education community will be vital as Liquid Instruments continues to build broader awareness and develop its customer base in new markets that can benefit from its flexible hardware and software tools.

“I am proud to be joining a team that has already made significant progress in completely transforming the way research is performed across industries,” said Phillips. “Our existing offerings, paired with the innovations we have in the pipeline, present a massive opportunity to increase our footprint in new markets, and I am excited to be coming on board to lead that charge, especially in the higher education sector.”

New board appointment Dr. Charles McMillan served as the 10th Director of the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) where he directed the science, technology, engineering and infrastructure that enabled LANL to deliver on its core mission of ensuring the safety, reliability and performance of the nation’s nuclear deterrent. He brings over 35 years of leadership experience at two high-profile national laboratories where he not only oversaw the high-level strategic direction but led operational advances within a complex environment. Having led some of the largest R&D organizations in the U.S. and served as an advisor to the Department of Defense (DoD) and Department of Energy (DoE), he brings a keen understanding of how innovative tools can drive major advancements in science and engineering.

“Liquid Instruments is producing devices that promise a revolution in flexibility for test and measurement, and I look forward to helping usher the company into its next phase of growth,” said Dr. McMillan. “This team has embraced creative, rapid technological evolution to make instruments that are flexible enough to address challenges in the laboratory, which I believe will change the field.”

The company has also appointed accomplished senior technology executive, Saar Gillai, to the board. Gillai brings over 25 years of experience in high profile leadership roles at a variety of leading companies across the enterprise and service provider market and has served as an independent board director at Xilinx since 2016 and Semtech since 2018. Earlier in his career, Gillai was SVP and General Manager at HP, where he established and grew HP’s enterprise cloud services to an industry leading position by investing in new tools around communications hardware, network virtualization and software defined networking. Most recently, Saar was the CEO of Teridion, a SaaS startup focused on cloud networking, where he grew recurring revenue 50% YoY, and expanded the product line into the SD-WAN market.

“Liquid Instruments’ initial offerings are already enabling users to interface with their research and development projects on a deeper level through advances in FPGA-enabled instrumentation, and that is just the beginning,” said Gillai. “I am excited to be joining at a time when my cloud expertise will help the team at Liquid Instruments further transform test and measurement and offer a customer-centric experience enabled by software and cloud connectivity.”
