BOCA RATON, Fla.--()--SurGenTec® LLC, a Boca Raton, FL based medical device company has been awarded the 2020 Orthopedics This Week Spine Technology Award. This award is generally presented during the North American Spine Society (NASS) annual meeting but was presented virtually this year. The annual awards are voted on by a panel of highly accomplished neurosurgeons and orthopedic spine surgeons. The award is graded on originality, clinical relevance, likelihood of improving patient outcomes, cost effectiveness and if the surgeon judging would use the technology. The awarded technology from SurGenTec’s product line is the unique and innovative 3D Fusion System™. The system allows physicians to access the facet joints and transverse process in an open or minimally invasive manner to decorticate and deliver bone graft. The system helps aide physicians when performing a true posterolateral lumbar fusion. Until now, there has never been an FDA cleared product available for physicians to use in spine surgery. In minimally invasive lumbar fusion surgery this procedure is generally neglected due to access issues. SurGenTec aims to make it standard protocol in minimally invasive surgery, as it is in open procedures. The system combines the GraftGun® universal bone graft delivery system with the 3D GraftRasp™. These devices in conjunction allow for tactile decortication of bone and controlled graft delivery to the surgical site. There are multiple rasp options to use depending on the anatomical level and the rasp footplates are disposable to ensure the teeth are sharp for every case. With this universal system, physicians may load the bone graft of their choice or use SurGenTec’s pre-filled GraftGun cartridges with ViMax™ (cellular matrix), OsteoFlo® NanoPutty® (synthetic bone graft), Ossify™ (Cortical Fibers, or DBM Putty) to reduce OR time and the risk of cross contamination on the back table. SurGenTec recently received 510k clearance from the FDA for spine indications on top of their previously granted general orthopedic clearance. Multiple training labs are scheduled every month which feature didactic, dry lab and wet labs at the new Boca BioSkills Lab at their headquarters in Boca Raton, FL. SurGenTec's 3D fusion system is currently being used within the US market and plans to introduce internationally

Travis Greenhalgh, CEO of SurGenTec stated in a recent interview, “This award is a great honor for our company. We pride ourselves on developing new technologies to help physicians treat their patients with less-invasive treatment options. The 3D fusion system is a perfect example of perseverance and determination through years of research and development. We are humbled to be honored by the judges who are thought leading neurosurgeons and orthopedic surgeons in the spine surgery community. This is an exciting time for our company to release this first-of-its kind technology,” said Greenhalgh.
