CRANBURY, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--OncLive® is pleased to announce that yesterday it honored 15 remarkable cancer care pioneers during the 8th Annual Giants of Cancer Care® Awards Ceremony. The virtual awards ceremony was held during the 38th Annual CFS®: Innovative Cancer Therapy for Tomorrow®, hosted by Physicians’ Education Resource®, LLC (PER®).
The 2020 class of Giants of Cancer Care® inductees hail from locales around the globe, including Lagos, Nigeria; Amsterdam; Brussels; and Philadelphia. This year’s class marks the eighth consecutive year that OncLive® has saluted the physician-scientists who are shaping oncology practice, bringing the total number of honorees recognized through the Giants of Cancer Care® program to 113.
The award recipients of this year’s class were chosen from a field of more than 800 clinicians and investigators - a record number of peer nominations representing a 32% increase over 2019. A seven-member steering committee winnowed the nominees down to 75 finalists and an elite selection committee of more than 120 hematologists and oncologists then voted to choose the 2020 honorees, which includes 7 women, the most for a single class in the history of the program. To maintain the continued momentum of recognizing top oncologists and researchers who have made extraordinary advances in oncology research and clinical practice, nominations for the 2021 Giants of Cancer Care® program are now open through February 28, 2021.
OncLive® began the Giants of Cancer Care® program in 2013 to honor clinicians and investigators who have contributed to advancements in the understanding of cancer and the treatment of patients. Recipients must possess selflessness, compassion for patients and a desire to understand and develop life-changing anticancer treatments.
