National Organized Workers’ Union (NOWU) Betrays Members, Launches Legal Action Against Three Inside Whistleblowers: CUPE

TORONTO--()--Amidst growing concerns from members on the efficacy of NOWU, the union has launched a retaliatory legal attack on three inside whistleblowers who demanded fiscal transparency from the union, reports one whistleblower.

The fact that our union, NOWU, would attempt to silence members by launching an unjustified, threatening legal attack is baffling,” says Sebastian Trujillo, Mount Sinai Nutrition Department worker and NOWU member. “NOWU is attempting to scare its own members into submission. Frankly, members are feeling disgusted by this union’s aggressive and questionable tactics.”

The legal actions launched by NOWU come as a result of a demand from three inside whistleblowers that the union provide members with transparent financials, which have yet to be remitted to members. Additionally, there are growing concerns from NOWU members about the union’s ability to adequately represent them to the employer, Mount Sinai Hospital.

I’ve completely lost faith in NOWU’s ability to represent workers at Mount Sinai Hospital, which is why we reached out to CUPE for support,” continued Trujillo. “The leadership at NOWU has openly raided SEIU locals with promises of improved wages and working conditions, but I feel they continue to fail to adequately represent members and deliver on their lofty promises to loyal hospital workers."

CUPE is the country’s leading union representing more than 700,000 workers across Canada. CUPE is also Ontario’s primary health care union, representing workers in hospitals, long-term care facilities, and in emergency services.
