Industrious, Elucd Launch Opinion Tracking Program Measuring Ongoing Employee Sentiment About the Workplace

New program, Workstat, collected national survey data in May;

Workstat beginning targeted analysis in New York, Chicago and Atlanta

NEW YORK--()--Industrious, the largest premium workplace provider in the U.S., today announced its partnership with data research company Elucd to launch their new employee survey program, Workstat. The program pairs data-driven sentiment tracking with the operational understanding of a national workplace provider to deliver much-needed, deeper understandings of employee concerns about the office experience. While Workstat began by measuring opinions in May about workplace re-openings post-COVID, the program will serve as an ongoing tool to analyze employee sentiments over time and thereby better enable office operators to identify and adapt to shifting priorities.

“Most return-to-work guides so far miss the most important element of all: the voice of the employee. The needs and wants of the person doing the work every day have always been Industrious’s top priority: what’s most important to them, what anxieties they have, how to make that day a little better, safer, and more productive. We didn’t see a way for companies to navigate the coming year well without tracking how office-goers feel,” said Jamie Hodari, CEO of Industrious. “That’s why we’re so excited to partner with Elucd, as I truly think that Workstat will be an indispensable platform in filling this data gap and can help drive policies that begin and end with what matters most: the needs of employees.”

Workstat collected anonymous national survey responses in May, and its preliminary findings have striking implications for office operations. In surveys of 745 office-going adults, Workstat found that:

  • Mode of commuting is a key determinant of when workers feel ready to return to offices.
    • People who do not use public transportation were nearly three times as likely (23%) to think it’s safe to return to work now than people who commute by public transportation (9%).
  • The top concern people have overall about returning to work is that others in their office will behave in a way that puts them at risk (36%).
    • This exceeded the perceived dangers from commuting (8%) or employers not taking aggressive enough action to ensure their safety in the office (19%).
    • The top concern of those who take public transportation to work, however, was that commuting would put them in danger (29%).
  • Parents aren't itching to return to the office more than people without kids.
    • When asked how likely they are to return to the office when possible, there was no major statistical difference between those with kids with them at home (51%) or without (46%).
    • But parents with kids at home express far more uncertainty about when it will be safe to return to the office (31% saying they were “not sure”) than those without kids (21%).

In the first official phase of the program beginning today, Workstat will examine local worker sentiment in the New York City, Chicago, and Atlanta metro areas. These results will give employers in each of these regions a set of initial metrics to help guide decision making around when and how to reopen their spaces, and will better understand the top priorities of local employees.

Beyond following the latest official health advisories and guidance, reopening offices in a way that makes employees comfortable requires a deep understanding of workplace anxieties, opinions, and preferences. Workstat will conduct surveys on an ongoing basis to measure how these sentiments evolve over time, both in the immediate-term of the COVID pandemic and beyond as the office experience confronts fundamental change.

“Elucd is committed to equipping leaders with vital opinion data by bringing the voices of all Americans into the rooms where decisions are made. We’re proud to partner with Industrious on Workstat -- the program will ensure that companies can chart their next steps driven by employee needs and public health guidelines,” said Michael Simon, CEO of Elucd. “We’re looking forward to launching our local city surveys to provide a granular look at what people are feeling as they begin contemplating their return to work."
