LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Bluestone Sunshields, the original chic solution to facial sun protection sold through dermatologist and esthetician offices, today announced a new product line of clear face shields as a back-to-work solution to protect workers during COVID-19. The company also rolled out a line of protective glasses to safeguard against infection via the eyes, an area often overlooked and left vulnerable when only wearing a mask.
"When COVID-19 hit, I realized that doctors, nurses and others needed our shields to help patients, so we immediately created clear face shields and donated 4,000 to help those battling on the front line such as Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, and UW Medicine hospitals in Seattle," said Jen Podany, Founder and CEO of Bluestone. "This was personal to me. My roots are in the medical community, I have family in law enforcement and I have deep ties to the fashion and retail communities. People from all of these groups were telling me about a shortage in PPE and I knew we could adapt our product into something functional and comfortable."
As a result, the company went into full production mode, expanding its market to support the nation's back-to-work mandates. Bluestone's existing sun-safety visor was designed for safety and protection. The design was adapted to meet the intense need for personal protective equipment (PPE) to medical workers, essential service providers and the everyday consumer who still periodically needs to interact with the outside world but wants to take every precaution for their own safety and the safety of those around them.
The shields were created by Podany, who was a licensed esthetician before launching Bluestone. Podany was working alongside top dermatologists and physicians in Los Angeles and saw the need for something to provide privacy and protection for patients who had recently undergone treatments that left them extremely sensitive to sunlight. Celebrities could hide under them, protecting their privacy.
As a result of the company's work with top doctors, cosmetic laser manufacturers and skincare professionals, Bluestone Sunshields is founded on the mission to provide the best in UV protection. All sun shields are tested and approved according to the ANSI Z80.3 standards, both in-house and by a third party. Bluestone applied the same rigor and commitment to excellence when designing the face shields and the products are in high demand from the medical community it originally served as well as a fast-growing new group of business owners looking to provide additional safety and comfort to employees and customers.
"We've had calls from commercial real estate owners, restaurants, department stores and other retailers who want the shields to provide tenants and shoppers an extra and very visual safety barrier against COVID-19 along with masks," Podany added.
Companies going back to work are looking for ways to reassure concerned workers and need to expand their arsenal from just hand sanitizer, masks and frequent hand washing to create additional barriers to infection. The Bluestone shields were designed for unique comfort and protection.
Bluestone face shields are available online for $114 for a pack of six of the soft lens design and $150 for a pack of six of the hard lens design. The safety glasses are $45 for a pack of six. Bluestone Shields also are available for resale or in bulk orders.
