KB Home Is the First Homebuilder to Join the Well Living Lab Alliance

The Well Living Lab is a collaboration between Delos and Mayo Clinic, and the first lab exclusively focused on researching how indoor environments can improve human health and well-being.

LOS ANGELES--()--KB Home (NYSE: KBH) today announced that it is the first homebuilder to join the Well Living Lab Alliance, a collaboration of Delos and Mayo Clinic, which is supported by a global consortium and dedicated to the advancement of knowledge to transform indoor environments, and ultimately improve human health and well-being.

The Well Living Lab draws upon the expertise of building, health and behavioral sciences to conduct human subject studies in simulated and real-world settings. The lab comprises 7,500 square feet of research space adjacent to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, and is the first research center devoted exclusively to this field of study.

“We are excited to have our first homebuilder join the Well Living Lab Alliance. We welcome the leadership and expertise that KB Home will bring to advancing this movement to improve the places where people live, work and play,” says Brent Bauer, M.D., Mayo Clinic, medical director of the Well Living Lab. “Alliance members bring unique perspectives and we have a powerful community coming together.”

“In joining the Well Living Lab Alliance, KB Home will support the advancement of science to generate evidence-based findings that can be used to benefit our customers in the future,” said Jeff Mezger, KB Home’s Chairman, President and CEO. “KB Home is actively engaged in developing cutting-edge solutions that can elevate the health and comfort of our homebuyers, and our participation in the Well Living Lab Alliance underscores that commitment.”

KB Home stands out from other homebuilders by providing homebuyers with exceptional choice and control. KB Home starts by offering a wide variety of homes at an affordable price. From there, the builder gives buyers the ability to personalize their homes, from homesites and floor plans to design features. The KB Home team works hand in hand with homeowners every step of the way so they have a real partner in the process.

KB Home has been a strong champion of the role homebuilders can play in building a healthier home. Nearly 20 years ago, the company built its first ENERGY STAR® certified new home. Today, every KB home is designed to be ENERGY STAR certified and deliver an enhanced indoor environment thanks to quality construction techniques and materials as well as high performance ventilation systems that regularly introduce fresh outdoor air. Additionally, the company incorporates design features guided by the EPA’s Indoor airPLUS standards, these include low- or zero-VOC products in insulation, paint, carpeting and cabinetry. KB Home is also a leader in advancing new technologies. In January 2019, the company debuted KB ProjeKt: Where Tomorrow Lives™, a health-oriented concept home of the future that redefined the home as a “health hub”. In that same year, KB Home became the first U.S. homebuilder to offer the Delos DARWIN™ Home Wellness Intelligence platform in select communities, a powerfully integrated system that monitors and calibrates the indoor home environment. As consumers increasingly focus on healthy lifestyles, KB Home will continue to offer innovative homes that promote the health and well-being of homeowners.
