No More Walking Up Hill Both Ways in a Snowstorm: Highpoint Virtual Academy of Michigan is Open for Enrollment!

MESICK, Mich.--()--Highpoint Virtual Academy of Michigan (HVAM), an online public charter school, is inviting all students to stop “walking up hill both ways in a snowstorm” to get to class. HVAM is a tuition free public school where students don’t have to leave the comfort of their home. Starting tomorrow, HVAM is now accepting enrollments from all 83 Michigan counties for the upcoming 2020-2021 school year.

Authorized by Mesick Consolidated Schools, HVAM is available tuition-free to students in grades K-12 who reside anywhere in the state.

HVAM offers a personalized approach to learning, delivering rich, engaging curriculum designed to assist students who seek alternative pathways to education. Students receive support and resources needed to reach their academic goals, and access programs and courses designed to help with career readiness.

And HVAM is the only online school in Michigan to offer an Early Middle College Program, where high school students can attend a “13th year” of high school, earning valuable college credits and an Associate’s Degree at no cost.

“HVAM provides an educational experience like no other school in the state of Michigan, and our students thrive in this kind of learning environment,” says Head of School Mary Moorman. “HVAM students have an opportunity to prepare for college without incurring significant debt; these days, that’s a big deal.”

All HVAM students are offered a full course load in the core subjects of math, science, language arts, history, art and electives. HVAM also offers student clubs, field trips, social outings, and other activities to foster a sense of school community, including an in-person graduation ceremony in the spring.

Virtual classes are taught by Michigan-licensed teachers who communicate with students and families via phone, chat, and email in addition to the required class-connect sessions.

“HVAM is the best option for our daughter, and we are grateful this kind of opportunity exists in our state,” said Dawn Higbee, parent and learning coach for HVAM student Rabakah Schutter. “My daughter has great teachers, a supportive environment, and opportunities for social interactions. It’s just like public school.”

HVAM is now accepting applications for the 2020-2021 school year. For more information on how to enroll, and for a schedule of upcoming events, visit hvam.k12.com.
