ANAHEIM, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--As attendees arrive at the ATX West lobby in Anaheim Feb 11-13, they will be met by OnRobot’s new VGC10 gripper holding poster boards as part of a choreographed dance featuring collaborative robot arms from Universal Robots equipped with OnRobot end-of-arm-tooling (EoAT). The new gripper, that just made Cobotics World’s Top 5 Grippers of 2019, is a small but powerful and highly configurable vacuum gripper with no need for external air supply. Based on the design of the OnRobot VG10 electric vacuum gripper, the compact VGC10 is smaller and lighter than its larger cousin, so it is ideal for constrained environments and smaller robot arms, offering the same impressive payload of 15 kg (32 lb). The VGC10 features two independently controlled air channels that allow it to act as a dual gripper with pick-up and release in the same action, further increasing efficiency and reducing cycle time. The gripper can also be used with a single air channel for higher gripping performance.
The VGC10 provides fast out-of-the-box deployment but also offers unlimited customization, with easily changeable suction cup options and the ability to add or replace arms to fit highly specific application needs. With this configurability, the VGC10 can grip and move a wide array of small, multi-dimensional, and heavy objects even with a lighter payload robot arm.
The compact new gripper is seamlessly compatible with any major collaborative or light industrial robot arm through OnRobot’s new award-winning One System Solution platform that provides a unified mechanical and electrical interface between the robot arms and any OnRobot EoAT. VGC10 will also be on display at OnRobot’s own booth 4395, showcased on Omron’s TM5-700 collaborative robot, and on a Doosan M1013 in OnRobot partner Ellison Technologies’ booth 4293.
The OnRobot booth will exhibit the RG2 and VG10 grippers in a dual set-up on Mitsubishi’s RV-4FL robot arm. The ability to quickly change between any OnRobot EoAT will be demonstrated with the company’s Dual Quick Changer mounted on a Kawasaki RS007 robot.
General manager of OnRobot’s Americas division, Kristian Hulgard, emphasizes how the compatibility and benefits of OnRobot EoAT are breaking down automation barriers: “Up until now, manufacturers’ ability to integrate end-of-arm-tooling has been limited by proprietary interfaces, complex programming, and inflexible, limited-use tools. The new VGC10 gripper joins OnRobot’s rapidly expanding product portfolio poised to capture significant shares of the rapidly growing EoAT market. Over the next 10 years, the global gripper market, valued at US$1 billion in 2018, is expected to see substantial growth according to a study by Future Market Insights, projecting the market to increase at a CAGR of 10 percent between 2019 and 2029.
