Opportunity Education Doubles Quest Forward School Network in Tanzania to 34 Schools

OMAHA, Neb.--()--Opportunity Education, a non-profit foundation established and funded by Joe Ricketts, announced today it will add 18 schools to its Quest Forward Learning Tanzanian network, doubling the number of Tanzanian participating schools. Quest Forward Learning is Opportunity Education’s comprehensive high school program that teaches young people rigorous academics along with the skills they need to succeed in a rapidly changing world.

Opportunity Education offers its Quest Forward Learning Program in the United States and in Africa. Schools working with Quest Forward learning in the United States include the Quest Forward Academy in Omaha, Nebraska, the Quest Forward Academy in Santa Rosa, California, and the Girard College High School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Participating schools in the United States and Africa receive a full academic curriculum, classroom technology, and teacher training for effective, project-based learning. Since 2017, 16 schools have joined the Network in Tanzania. The 2020 school year will see the Network double in size with an expanded footprint that will now include Kilimanjaro, Zanzibar, Dar-es-Salaam, and Dodoma. With this Network of 35 schools, Opportunity Education will support the education of more than 3,000 students, and the work and growth of more than 300 teachers in Tanzania.

“I am proud of the important work Opportunity Education is doing globally to help young people prepare to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing world,” said Joe Ricketts. “Unlike most high school students in the world today, students in Opportunity Education’s Quest Forward Learning Program are active, engaged learners who build academic competence, skills mastery and essential life habits they need to succeed. With this work in Tanzania, we are setting an example of the education young people need globally today.”

The 35 Tanzanian schools in the Quest Forward Learning 2020 network include a diverse group of learning institutions, ranging from privately owned schools to ones affiliated with the Christian and Muslim faiths. The schools serve students from all faiths. Opportunity Education’s curriculum meets the standards, scope, and sequence requirements of the Tanzania National Curriculum and it is the only fully digital secondary school curriculum available in Tanzania today.
