State of Idaho Launches Gov2Go® Online Service to Improve Citizen Interaction with Government

New application features flag status change alerts, election day reminders and professional license renewal notifications, with more coming soon.

BOISE, Idaho--()--Ever wonder why flags are at half-staff? Thanks to Gov2Go®, the nation’s first personal government assistant exclusively from Access Idaho, citizens have a new and convenient way to stay in the know about flag status updates.

“With Gov2Go, we can deliver half-staff flag notifications and other important state government information directly to citizens through the devices they use every day,” said Idaho Governor Brad Little. “It’s another way the state is increasing transparency and providing easier, more timely access to government information."

After downloading the free Gov2Go application at www.idaho.gov/flag, citizens create an account, then select “Flag Status Updates” from the services menu. When the State of Idaho issues a flag status update, Gov2Go alerts users via text, email and push notification, depending on preference. Alerts contain the flag status change and the reason for it.

In addition, citizens have other notification services to choose from, with even more features launching soon. As additional state agencies and local governments integrate with Gov2Go, the platform will become more indispensable as a hub for keeping track of important government alerts, deadlines, reminders, information and news.

Another flagship feature of the Gov2Go platform is the professional license renewal notification service for the 90,000 Idahoans who hold a state professional license. Gov2Go proactively notifies licensees by text, email or in-app message when their renewal or payment is due to ensure their license is kept in good standing and to avoid late fees. The Idaho Bureau of Occupational Licenses and the Idaho Real Estate Commission are the first two licensing boards to utilize Gov2Go.

Moreover, the Idaho Transportation Department’s Aeronautics Division plans to offer the state’s 2,800 aircraft owners the ability to set up renewal reminders via Gov2Go during their upcoming aircraft registration renewal period. And with the approaching election season, Gov2Go will help citizens easily keep track of the numerous general, local and primary election dates posted by the Idaho Secretary of State.

The state leveraged its existing contract with Access Idaho, administrator of Idaho’s official web portal (idaho.gov) and provider of electronic government solutions, to offer Gov2Go at no cost. The partnership's mission allows government leaders to focus on delivering on-demand, digital government solutions without requests for proposals or the use of tax appropriations. Now in its 20th year, the partnership between the State of Idaho and Access Idaho has benefited more than 40 state agency programs and over 300 local governments statewide.

Access Idaho is managed under a statewide contract awarded to Idaho Information Consortium (IIC), a Boise-based company and wholly owned subsidiary of digital government firm NIC.
