MINNEAPOLIS--()--The American Academy of Neurology (AAN) has selected Mary Post, MBA, CAE, as its next Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead the world’s largest association of neurologists and neuroscience professionals. Post, a former Deputy Executive Director of the AAN, will return to the AAN to succeed current AAN CEO Catherine M. Rydell, CAE, who will retire in May 2020 after more than 21 years as CEO.

Returning to the AAN to build upon its incredible success serving its 36,000 members worldwide will be the pinnacle of my career,” said Post. “A lot of hard work remains to ensure our members and neurologic patients worldwide receive the highest quality patient-centered neurologic care, and I am looking forward to rolling up my sleeves with the Board of Directors and the Academy’s impressive staff to ensure the AAN remains indispensable to every one of our members, and together we continue to make a big difference in the lives of everyone affected by neurologic disease.”

Neurology is the most exciting field in medicine today. Recent advances in treatments are helping many of our patients – and many more are on the horizon. That is why having Mary Post help lead the AAN is so very exciting. Not only does she have prior experience with the AAN, but Post’s leadership experience in other areas of health care will take us even further during this transformative time in neurology,” said James C. Stevens, MD, FAAN, President of the American Academy of Neurology.

Post currently serves as Executive Director of the American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA), where she has led the organization since 2008.

Prior to joining the ABA, Post was a Deputy Executive Director for the American Academy of Neurology, where she served for 16 years in numerous leadership roles, including Chief Operating Officer and a dual role of Executive Director of the United Council of Neurologic Subspecialties.

Post is a Certified Association Executive (CAE), the highest professional credential in the association management industry. Fewer than five percent of all association professionals have earned a CAE designation. Post earned a Master of Business Administration degree from Metropolitan State University and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from St. Cloud State University.

Post will start her new role as CEO of the American Academy of Neurology in the spring of 2020.

The American Academy of Neurology is the world’s largest association of neurologists and neuroscience professionals, with over 36,000 members.
