Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s Pre-Employment Screening Program Wins Honorable Mention MarCom Award

PSP recognized for its Monitoring service fact sheet

WASHINGTON--()--The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s (FMCSA) Pre-Employment Screening Program (PSP) received an Honorable Mention MarCom Award in the Marketing/Promotion/Materials category for its fact sheet about the PSP Monitoring service. MarCom Awards recognize outstanding achievement by creative professionals involved in the concept, direction, design and production of marketing, communication materials and programs.

This award marks the second win for PSP’s fact sheet design, following a Gold Award earned in the Marketing/Promotion Campaign category for a refreshed set of program fact sheets in 2017.

Over 6,500 entries were submitted from throughout the United States, Canada and 18 other countries. Judges are industry professionals who look for companies and individuals whose talent exceeds a high standard of excellence and whose work serves as a benchmark for the industry.

With the drivers’ written authorization, PSP provides immediate online access to commercial drivers’ safety histories to assist motor carriers with the driver hiring process. FMCSA contracts with NIC Federal, LLC to develop and maintain PSP. FMCSA is responsible for all PSP data and general oversight, while NIC Federal handles daily operations, customer service and technology development and maintenance.

The PSP Monitoring fact sheet helps FMCSA and NIC Federal educate drivers about the service, which was launched earlier this year. PSP data is updated approximately every 30 days with a new data snapshot from the FMCSA Motor Carrier Management Information System (MCMIS) database, many times updating a driver’s PSP record. The monitoring service automatically notifies drivers when information changes within their individual PSP record, eliminating the need for drivers to check their records constantly.

“The PSP Monitoring fact sheet is extremely useful in spreading the word to drivers about this simple option to stay informed about their safety records,” said Laura Johnson, NIC Federal’s General Manager. “We are proud that the MarCom Awards continue to single out PSP for its strategically-designed materials.”

FMCSA and NIC Federal dedicate creative resources to encourage driver participation in the monitoring program because drivers who understand their PSP records can identify ways to improve their individual safety performance. According to a study released by FMCSA, PSP positively impacts the safety of America's roadways. The study shows that motor carriers using PSP have, on average, decreased crash rates by 8%, and driver out-of-service (OOS) rates by 17%. It is estimated that in the 12 months studied, the motor carrier group using PSP prevented 863 crashes and more than 3,500 driver OOS incidents.
