Blueland Lands a Deal with Kevin O’Leary on the Season Premiere of ABC’s ‘Shark Tank’ Season 11

The eco-friendly consumer goods brand inked an offer for a deal for $270,000 on the Season Premiere of the hit ABC television series

NEW YORK--()--Blueland co-founder and CEO Sarah Paiji Yoo and Head of Product Development & Innovation Syed Naqvi opened the Season 11 premiere episode of ABC’s “Shark Tank” with an eye-opening look into household cleaning supplies while pitching their innovative, eco-friendly company, Blueland.

On Sunday’s episode, the startup shocked the Sharks with alarming facts on plastic pollution, and why they’ve made it their mission to reimagine household packaged goods to eliminate single-use plastic bottles from our everyday products. Blueland’s innovative non-toxic cleaning tablets and environmentally responsible packaging, paired with their high profit margins, caught the attention of Sharks Lori Greiner and Kevin O’Leary, along with guest shark Daniel Lubetzky, founder and CEO of KIND Snacks.

Greiner and Lubetzky decided to team up on an offer, while O’Leary went in solo - both asking for 10%. With two competitive offers on the table, Paiji Yoo and Naqvi knew they couldn’t give up 10% equity, so they made a quick game time decision to counter Kevin O’Leary’s offer. Knowing Mr. Wonderful loves a royalty deal, Paiji Yoo countered by offering him 3% equity in Blueland and a $.50 royalty on each Clean Essentials Kit, in exchange for $270,000 of company. Before Lori or Daniel could blink, O’Leary accepted the deal!

“I’ve watched ABC’s ‘Shark Tank’ for years and it’s always been my dream to go into the Tank,” said Blueland Co-founder and CEO Sarah Paiji Yoo. “I knew we had a product that checked all the boxes - sustainable, effective and affordable. We came in looking for help from a Shark to expand into retail, and we are beyond thrilled to be working with Kevin O’Leary. His experience in retail is exactly what we need to take this brand to the next level and expand.”

“What Blueland has done within the first months of their business is undeniably impressive,” said O’Leary. “They were smart in utilizing customer discovery before launching and have created products that fill a whitespace in the consumer household market. I am excited to work with Sarah, Syed and the Blueland team to build a leading brand in the market.”

Blueland launched on April 22, 2019 with three safe-yet-effective cleaning solutions (Multi-Surface, Bathroom, and Glass + Mirror) in dry, tablet forms, and introduced its Hand Soap in August 2019. All four products are available to purchase together in The Clean Essentials Kit for $38. The Clean Essentials Kit includes a tablet of each cleaner and hand soap, three signature, Cradle-to-Cradle platinum-certified reusable “Forever” cleaning bottles. The cleaning solutions and hand soap can also be purchased as separate Starter Sets for $12 each while refill tablets packs are available for $2 or less.
