ISL Tickets on Sale Now: Indianapolis, IN Hosts Launch of the Historic International Swimming League, Oct 5th-6th 2019

Over 100 Olympians are represented by the ISL, including 41 Olympic gold medals from the 2016 Olympic Games.

INDIANAPOLIS--()--History will be made on October 5th and 6th in downtown Indianapolis, Indiana where the first match of the professional International Swimming League (ISL) will take place at the Indiana University Natatorium at IUPUI. Tickets are on sale now starting as low as $20.

Four club teams will participate in the first meet: the DC Trident, Cali Condors, Aqua Centurions, and Energy Standard. These clubs represent half of the two-continent league that is split between the United States and Europe. After the six-meet regular season, the top four clubs (two U.S., two European) will advance to the finals at the 12,000-seat Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, in December, when the inaugural ISL Champions will be crowned.

Over 100 Olympians are represented by the ISL, including 41 Olympic gold medals from the 2016 Olympic Games. What sets the ISL apart is that swimmers will be paid both a salary and earn prize money based on their individual and club finishes. About $180,000 in prize money will be awarded at each regular season match, with nearly $1.5 million in prize money available for December’s championship meet in Las Vegas. Men and women will share equal prize money.

The innovative format for the opening season will see each club team bring a roster of up to 28 star swimmers (14 male, 14 female) that will compete to score points for their club. Match tallies will earn them rankings points toward the league table, with the top four clubs advancing to the grand final in Las Vegas in December.

The ISL will engage sports fans over each competition weekend with high-tempo two-hour matches. Experts in television, digital media and sports entertainment will provide a compelling backdrop for the swimmers with cutting-edge production and live show fan engagement.

Among the swimmers expected to compete in Indianapolis include the world’s top female swimmer and DC Trident Katie Ledecky, who at just 22-years old already owns five Olympic gold medals and three World Records.

The meet will also mark the return to competition of legendary American swimmer and DC Trident Natalie Coughlin in her first official races since giving birth to her first child. Her 12 Olympic medals tie her for the most ever won by a female swimmer. She hasn’t raced since the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials, but after giving birth in 2018, she’s back in the pool to race in the ISL.

The meet will also feature Indiana native Lilly King, who just completed her collegiate career at Indiana University where she became the only woman in NCAA history to win four consecutive titles in both the 100 and 200 yard breaststrokes. The Evansville-born swimmer who attended FJ Reitz High School in suburban Indianapolis will return home to represent the Cali Condors in the ISL.

Other Headline Swimmers Expected to Race:

  • Italian Federica Pellegrini, who is both an athlete and club captain of the Aqua Centurions, is the owner of 5 Olympic gold medals, 15 World Championship gold medals, and the World Record in the women’s 200 free.
  • South African Chad Le Clos is the owner of 4 Olympic medals, including a gold from the 2012 Olympics in the 200 fly when he blocked the legendary Michael Phelps from a 3rd-straight gold medal in his best event.
  • Sweden’s Sarah Sjöström is the fastest woman in water, holding individual World Records in 6 events: more than any other swimmer in the world.
