MERIDIAN, Miss.--()--Representatives from BankPlus and the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas (FHLB Dallas) joined local dignitaries today to award $8,000 in Partnership Grant Program (PGP) funds to Lauderdale County Habitat for Humanity (Habitat), whose mission is to provide a safe and adequate place to live for low-income individuals and disabled veterans by building a new home or repairing their current home. This is Habitat’s second PGP award, which will be allocated toward the organization’s marketing and outreach.

Monica Bradley, executive director of Habitat, said the grant funds will help the organization spread awareness of its mission and benefits to the community.

“Free marketing options can only take an organization so far,” said Ms. Bradley. “The end result of our mission is seeing families living better than they were. They eventually become taxpayers, putting money back into the city, taking pride in where they live and revitalizing the community one family at a time.”

Ms. Bradley discovered the PGP grant through BankPlus, who reached out to her organization and encouraged her to apply.

“It is very fulfilling seeing a local organization achieve its mission utilizing programs such as the PGP,” said Mark Ouellette, first vice president and director of the affordable housing program for BankPlus. “BankPlus is honored to provide support to Habitat and watch them make a difference by reinvesting the funds directly into the community.”

With the PGP, FHLB Dallas member institutions like BankPlus contribute $500 to $4,000 to a community-based organization (CBO), which FHLB Dallas matches at a 3:1 ratio. This year, FHLB Dallas awarded $300,000 in PGP funds through 25 member institutions to assist 27 CBOs. Combined with FHLB Dallas member contributions, a total of $442,500 has been awarded to the organizations.

“We have seen firsthand how the PGP can greatly benefit the community and help small organizations advance their missions,” said Greg Hettrick, first vice president and director of Community Investment at FHLB Dallas. “We applaud BankPlus’ long-time commitment to community investment and its use of the PGP.”

Ms. Bradley said the PGP program is vital and enables organizations to educate the community.

“Programs like the PGP are very important, and we are blessed to be a recipient this year,” said Ms. Bradley. “The PGP helps the community become more aware of nonprofits and ways they can get involved. Without the funds, we would have continued to limp along.”
