NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sard Verbinnen & Co (“SVC”), the global strategic communications firm, today announced that Karen Boykin-Towns has joined the firm as a Senior Counselor. Ms. Boykin-Towns recently retired from Pfizer Inc., where she last held the position of Vice President Corporate Affairs for Pfizer’s $34 billion Innovative Medicines business and was responsible for leading global public affairs and communications efforts. Ms. Boykin-Towns was recently re-elected Vice Chairman of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Board of Directors.
As a Senior Counselor, Ms. Boykin-Towns will advise clients on a wide range of issues, including public affairs, healthcare, diversity, crises, and environment, social and governance (ESG) matters. She will also contribute to SVC’s continued growth through business development and strategic counsel across the firm’s practice areas.

During an impressive 22-year career with Pfizer, Ms. Boykin-Towns held leadership roles in government relations, public affairs, global policy and human resources having served as the company’s first ever Chief Diversity Officer. She was a member of Pfizer’s Senior Leadership Committee comprising the firm’s top 200 global leaders. Before joining Pfizer, Ms. Boykin-Towns served as Legislative Director and Chief of Staff to New York State Senator David Paterson, who later became the 55th Governor of New York State.
Ms. Boykin-Towns is the Vice Chairman of the NAACP National Board of Directors, the oldest and largest civil rights and social justice organization in the United States. She serves as a Trustee of Brewster Academy and was past Co-Chair of the Business Council of New York State.
She graduated from The College of Mount Saint Vincent with a Bachelor of Arts in Business and holds a MBA from Baruch College of The City University of New York (CUNY). She is married to Darryl Towns, currently an executive at American Airlines and former New York State Commissioner of Housing and Community Renewal, and a member of the New York State Assembly for 18 years.
