Spero Health Brings Addiction Treatment Services to Dyersburg

BRENTWOOD, Tenn.--()--Spero Health, a CARF-accredited organization and national leader in the treatment of substance use disorders, announced today the company will continue to expand local access to affordable, effective, physician-led treatment with a new outpatient addiction treatment clinic in Dyersburg, Tennessee. The Dyersburg Spero Health Clinic, located at 433 East Parkview Street (in the old V.A. outpatient facility) will open its doors to start seeing new patients on Tuesday, October 1st. Individuals who need addiction treatment services are encouraged to walk in for help or call: (731) 334-5390 for more information.

The Dyersburg clinic will ensure individuals have fast access to high quality and affordable care in a currently underserved area. Spero Health accepts TennCare and select commercial insurance plans to ensure cost is not a barrier to recovery. The Dyersburg clinic is the organization's 29th outpatient location spanning 4 states. Dr. Alice McKee, board certified in Family Medicine, Palliative Medicine and board-eligible in Addiction Medicine, will be the medical director at this clinic. Dr. McKee has an extensive and distinguished background focused on substance use disorders in western Tennessee.

According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, in 2017, there were 1,269 overdose deaths involving opioids in Tennessee—a rate of 19.3 deaths per 100,000 persons, which is higher than the national rate of 14.6 deaths per 100,000 persons. The state has expanded resources to address the epidemic and leaders from Spero Health say they can be part of the solution as there is a considerable need for high-quality treatment providers locally.

“Traditionally, addiction treatment services have been fragmented, and not patient centered. Options have been limited because someone needing help may have to go to multiple places, and in some cases even travel to costly residential programs. Spero Health changes that by bringing all of the necessary services needed in recovery under one roof, giving individuals local access to transformative treatment to sustain long-term recovery,” said Steve Priest, CEO of Spero Health. “Individuals need fast access to coordinated and integrated treatment, and care needs to be individualized focusing on disease management rather than a certain time frame.”

Dr. McKee said, “Spero Health’s priority is to engage patients where they are in their journey and personalize the program to meet their specific needs. Once stabilized, we provide support for sustained recovery -- oftentimes for many months, depending on the individual. Our support team offers medication, counseling and other support services. This combination of therapy, called medication assisted treatment (MAT), has been shown for many years to have the highest success rate for long term recovery. Ultimately, we strive to abate the epidemic for the local community."
