Best's Review Examines the Impact of War Exclusions and Other Legal Trends on Insurers

OLDWICK, N.J.--()--In September, Best’s Review focuses on several significant legal cases that are being closely watched by the insurance industry, including:

  • An Act of War?”—The war exclusion sits at the center of a legal battle between Mondelez and Zurich American, which invoked the rarely used exclusion to deny a claim for property damages caused by a cyberattack;
  • The Opioids Reckoning”—Liability insurers seek legal clarity as "unprecedented" opioid litigation draws in drug manufacturers, distributors and retailers; and
  • Opening the Door” —Insurers are concerned as states are changing or reconsidering laws allowing child sex abuse victims to sue.

The September issue also includes “Building Up Assets,” which looks at how infrastructure debt fits insurers’ portfolio needs, providing uncorrelated, investment-grade holdings especially attractive with an economic downturn looming. In addition, the issue explore how life-related insurtechs are expanding beyond distribution and underwriting in “Widening the Scope.” Best’s Rankings in this issue are the “Top 50 World's Largest Reinsurance Groups” and the “Top US Life/Health Insurers.”
