National Philanthropic Trust Donor Grants Grow 39% to $1.3 Billion in Fiscal Year 2019

NPT Donor-advised Fund Accounts Recommend Nearly 52,000 Grants to Charities in All 50 States and Around the World

JENKINTOWN, Pa.--()--National Philanthropic Trust (NPT), the nation’s largest independent donor-advised fund (DAF) sponsor, issued a record $1.39 billion in charitable grants in Fiscal Year 2019. This represents a 39 percent increase from the previous year. In total, NPT donors recommended 51,968 grants—28 percent more than last year—to charities in all 50 states and around the world.

“Despite concerns over tax reform and the global economic climate, our DAF donors continued to show unwavering commitment to supporting the nonprofit organizations and causes that matter most to them,” said Eileen Heisman, CEO of National Philanthropic Trust. “NPT donors recommended a record number of grants to charities in fields ranging from the arts and education to the environment and human services. In the wake of disasters like the California wildfires, our donors didn’t hesitate to respond swiftly. We're profoundly grateful that with NPT's support, our donors are helping communities of all sizes throughout the country.”

NPT Fiscal Year 2019 Highlights, July 2018 through June 2019:

- $1.39 billion in grants, a 39 percent increase compared to FY 2018
- 51,968 grants to US and international charities, a 28 percent increase over FY 2018

Continuing trends in FY 2019 include a growing interest of NPT donors in impact investing and the contribution of complex assets to DAFs. While many small charities are unable to accept gifts of non-cash assets, NPT has the expertise to accept and liquidate contributions of real estate, closely held stock and tangible property. "Our goal is to help NPT donors maximize their charitable giving and to make the process simple and efficient for both our donors and their charitable recipients,” Heisman explained.

NPT’s UK affiliate, NPT UK, also saw a record number and value of grants to charities in Fiscal Year 2019.
