MILWAUKIE, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Whole grains leader Bob’s Red Mill is building on years of support for the Oregon Food Bank, Zenger Farm and other organizations striving to provide healthful meals and nutrition education to Oregonians, with a $150,000 commitment to No Kid Hungry, a national campaign to end childhood hunger in America.
Working to provide meals of substance to all people is in the company’s DNA, beginning with the company’s founders Bob and Charlee Moore, who have donated millions through the years to university programs and nutrition schools.
Throughout the past decade, the company has been dedicated to the issue of hunger in its backyard through its partnership with the Oregon Food Bank. Regularly donating thousands of pounds of whole grain-based foods like Quick Cooking Steel Cut Oats and employee volunteer hours, the company was recognized in 2017 with the organization’s Hunger Hero Award as the “Food Donor of the Year.” This past year alone, Bob’s Red Mill donated more than 360,000 pounds of food, bringing more than 280,000 meals to Oregonians in need.
This new partnership with No Kid Hungry will support the campaign’s ongoing efforts to increase access for kids to programs like school breakfast, after school and summer meals. “One in six kids in America will face hunger this year,” said Jill Davis, Senior Vice President of Corporate Partnerships for Share Our Strength, the organization behind the No Kid Hungry campaign. “Our goal at No Kid Hungry is to feed those children who don’t have enough food. And through partnerships with companies like Bob’s Red Mill on board, we are working toward that goal.”
The investment serves as a kickoff for upcoming seasonal fundraising efforts that will allow the company’s active and loyal fanbase to join Bob’s Red Mill in supporting the cause.
“A partnership with No Kid Hungry means we can help take a crack at childhood hunger from a new angle – continuing to help fill the gap through food donations, while also supporting those who drive policy decisions and help build food access programs at scale,” said Dennis Vaughn, CEO of Bob’s Red Mill.
