AVMA annual convention in Washington, D.C. August 2-6 to highlight flying with pets and One Health.

WASHINGTON--()--The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) is holding its 156th annual Convention this year at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C. August 2- 6 with thousands of veterinary professionals from all disciplines and practices attending. Veterinarians will be gathering to discuss the latest veterinary trends and topics, and help shape the future of the profession.

Veterinary experts will be discussing issues related to One Health, the collaboration of animal, human and environmental research for optimal health, opioid use, animal welfare, food safety, zoonotic disease, the latest technology and advancements in veterinary medicine and many other topics and trends.

Dr. Barbara Natterson-Horowitz, author of the New York Times’ best-selling “Zoobiquity” will present the Convention’s keynote speech about the amazing connection between animal and human health and what animals can teach us.

Another hot topic is the best way to fly with pets, and the AVMA has been closely working with several major U.S. airlines to develop a travel policy that is developed from the pet’s perspective and ensure airline travel is optimal for pet owners, pets and the airline. In addition to topics covering everything from genetic testing to integrative medicine, the AVMA’s leadership will be heading to Capitol Hill to meet with legislators.

In the exhibit hall, more than 300 companies will be showcasing and demonstrating the latest in hi-tech medical innovations and pet products & services.
