LA PLATA, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--With a befitting event theme, “Here for Good,” The Wills Group, a family-owned company, celebrated the opening of its state-of-the art headquarters in downtown La Plata, Maryland. The 45,000-square-feet building was fully renovated to support The Wills Group’s commitment to expanding its reach across the Mid-Atlantic region.
“Here” for Good
The Wills Group opened its doors to the community, businesses, and civic leaders at a house-warming event, showcasing the company’s local growth and commitment to Southern Maryland.
For nearly ten decades, the company has built a reputation in the community for being a customer-focused provider, a top employer, and a caring community partner. The Wills Group is now focusing efforts on expanding its retail line of businesses, including Dash In, Splash In ECO Car Washes, and SMO Motor Fuels.
“Since 1926, The Wills Group has called Southern Maryland home, occupying the space at our former headquarters on Crain Highway for nearly 60 years,” said Lock Wills, Chairman, CEO, and President of The Wills Group. “This new building serves as a solid foundation for the next chapter in our 93-year success story, fueling our growth for years to come.”
Here for “Good”
At the event, The Wills Group announced a $150,000 grant to LifeStyles of Southern Maryland, paying off the mortgage of their newest endeavor, Southern Crossing. A non-profit that provides emergency assistance to people in crisis, LifeStyles is rehabilitating a former motel to provide affordable, transitional housing and programs for low- to moderate-income households, including those at risk of becoming homeless. Southern Crossing will ensure that up to 77 individuals can reside at the facility and receive a personalized, structured, and client-centered approach to case-management.
The LifeStyles grant came from the Blackie Wills Community Leadership Fund, a component of The Wills Group’s community engagement efforts focused on eliminating childhood hunger and ensuring families have access to basic needs. The Wills Group has donated nearly $3 million to communities across the Mid-Atlantic region over the past ten years.
In addition to the grant to LifeStyles, Southern Maryland Food Bank, Farming4Hunger, Charles County Children’s Aid Society, Our Place Waldorf, and the Arnold House each received a $2,500 grant from The Wills Group.
New Modern, State-of-the-Art Headquarters
The Wills Group’s new headquarters, which underwent a complete remodel led by F.M. Harvey Construction, is the largest corporate location in the city of La Plata. The three-level modern building is outfitted with open spaces, ample natural light, and advanced technologies for a warm, creative, and productive working environment.
The collaboration spaces with casual, comfortable seating accommodate networking opportunities, as well as the flexible ways employees can choose to work. Likewise, with tables and banquette seating, the café gives employees a place to break bread together. On occasion, potential new products for Dash In stores are brought in to the café for employees to sample.
The over-sized training rooms with state-of-the-art technology provide an on-site training ground for Dash In and Splash In retail locations. The conference rooms give a nod to the company’s birthplace, with each one being named after waterways in Southern Maryland, and some decked with custom wall paper showcasing classic images from the company’s rich history.
The design and décor serve as a reflection of how The Wills Group keeps its communities’ Lives in Motion.
