Key opinion leaders explore the current framework of the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Innovation’s Oncology Care Model and discuss how its structure differs from inception.

CRANBURY, N.J.--()--The American Journal of Managed Care® (AJMC®), the leading multimedia peer-reviewed journal dedicated to issues in managed care, presents its most recent “Peer Exchange” panel discussion, “Immunotherapy in the Oncology Care Model.”

“For the last two years, the CMS Oncology Care Model has been working on increasing the coordination of oncology care,” said Michael J. Hennessy Jr., president of MJH Associates, Inc., parent company of AJMC®. “During this informative video series, our panel of key opinion leaders comes together to provide some insight on the five-year model and review its progress thus far.”

The panel features five distinguished experts:

  • Dr. Bruce Feinberg, vice president and chief medical officer at Cardinal Health Specialty Solutions, as moderator.
  • Susan Ash-Lee, a social worker and senior director of clinical services at Cancer Support Community.
  • Dr. Richard D. Carvajal, director of experimental therapeutics and director of the melanoma service in the department of medicine at Columbia University Irving Medical Center.
  • Ted Okon, executive director of Community Oncology Alliance.
  • Dr. Kavita K. Patel, vice president of provider/payer transformation for Johns Hopkins Health System.

The “Peer Exchange” series begins with a discussion about the current framework of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Innovation’s Oncology Care Model and how its structure differs from inception. The experts also provide an overview of the benefits of multidisciplinary care and key players who help manage patients with cancer under the Oncology Care Model.

Additional segments focus on the expert panel providing feedback on treating patients with cancer through clinical practice pathways under the Oncology Care Model, as well as insight regarding the overall participation of health care practices in the model and the potential for physician acceptance of a two-sided financial risk arrangement.
