NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--L3 Technologies (NYSE:LLL) announced today that three of its entities have been awarded a 2019 James S. Cogswell Outstanding Industrial Security Achievement Award from the U.S. Department of Defense, Defense Security Service (DSS). L3’s entities were selected as three of 51 recipients of this year’s award from a field of approximately 13,000 cleared defense contractor facilities.
“Across L3, we continually emphasize the importance of our security processes in all aspects of our business, and the Cogswell Award is the highest recognition of these efforts,” said Christopher E. Kubasik, L3’s Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President. “Increasingly, security is being considered as a critical operational pillar in our industry, along with cost, performance and schedule. We are focused on achieving excellence in everything we do, and I congratulate our security teams for once again being recognized as the best of the best on behalf of our customers.”
The Cogswell Award is the most prestigious honor a company can receive for the handling of classified information with integrity, discretion and proven reliability. The 2019 awards mark the 15th consecutive year that L3 has achieved one or more Cogswell Awards for its industry-leading security practices, and this year’s awards bring the total to 29 that L3 has received since 2005.
Recognized L3 divisions include L3 Communication Systems-West, Salt Lake City, Utah, of L3’s Communications & Networked Systems segment, as well as L3 ForceX, Nashville, Tennessee, and L3 Sonoma EO, Santa Rosa, California, both of L3’s Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) segment.
“We are honored by this special recognition from DSS and extremely proud of all our men and women who work hard to make L3’s security program a model for our industry,” said Vincent L. Jarvie, Vice President of Corporate Security. “Safeguarding sensitive information amid an escalating global threat is more critical now than ever before, and we are committed to making a strong contribution to L3’s strategy of continuous improvement.”
Cogswell Award nominees are competitively evaluated by a national review team, with DSS making the final selections. Winning security programs must exceed National Industrial Security Program requirements and demonstrate leadership in best practices, while maintaining the highest security standards.
With headquarters in New York City and approximately 31,000 employees worldwide, L3 develops advanced defense technologies and commercial solutions in pilot training, aviation security, night vision and EO/IR, weapons, maritime systems and space. The company reported 2018 sales of $10.2 billion.
