The design of the A1X has remained consistent, though a few notable changes have improved performance in meaningful ways. These upgrades include a new Li-Ion Battery that is rated for 450 full-power flashes, which is 100 more than its predecessor, a faster recycle time of just 1 second, the use of 20 wireless channels instead of 8, and an updated interface. Otherwise, it maintains the same rounded head and magnetic mount for Light Shaping Tools that made the original model so successful. Making this flash even better is AirTTL and HSS support for automatic metering. It also has an LED modeling light, a clean user interface, a built-in Air Remote, zoom function, and more.

Profoto is also offering an Off-Camera Kit. This bundles the A1X with a Connect Remote and is available for Canon, Nikon, and Sony systems.
