BEVERLY, Mass.--()--SiOnyx™, a leader in low light imaging technology – today announced the inclusion of the Aurora, a day/night action camera, in SAIL Magazine’s 2019 Pittman Innovation Awards, appearing in the February issue of SAIL and on sailmagazine.com. The awards annually recognize 15 “Best in Class” exceptional products developed by the sailing industry.

The Aurora is the only HD action video camera with true day and night color imaging. Small and light-weight, it is capable of capturing still, burst and 720p video with an integrated HD OLED display for real-time color night vision.

“It’s an honor for the Aurora to be named as one of best new technology innovations in the sailing industry,” said SiOnyx CEO Stephen Saylor. “Putting the power of color night vision in the hands of boating enthusiasts is the realization of a dream. Spotting navigation markers, scouting out anchorages and monitoring night time activity on the water just became a lot less stressful.”

Aurora is based on SiOnyx’s Ultra Low Light technology that until now, was only available in night vision devices costing thousands of dollars. Designed for mariners and an active outdoor lifestyle, Aurora is IP67 water resistant, as well as GPS-, digital compass-, and WiFi-enabled. Free companion apps on iOS™ and Android® enable real-time navigation or the ability to control the Aurora directly from a smartphone.

The Pittman Awards are judged by a panel from SAIL Magazine, including Executive Editor Adam Cort, Cruising Editor Charles J. Doane, Technical Editor Jay Paris and Electronics Editor Ben Ellison. Ellison nominated the Aurora for consideration in this year’s awards.

“I had learned about the fresh approach that SiOnyx is taking to night vision and then was impressed when I tried the Aurora camera around my harbor in various difficult light situations. So I brought the product to my fellow judges for consideration and it took off from there,” said Ben Ellison, who is also Editor of Panbo.com.
