Thompson Hine Adds High-Profile Labor and Employment Team

John Wymer and Bryan Stillwagon Join Firm’s Atlanta Office

ATLANTA--()--Thompson Hine LLP, one of the country’s leading law firms in service delivery innovation, is pleased to announce the expansion of its Labor & Employment practice nationally and in Atlanta with the addition of partners John Wymer and Bryan Stillwagon.

“John and Bryan’s practices will fit in very well with the work we currently do in Atlanta and our Labor & Employment group, as well as complement other groups, both office- and firm-wide,” said Tim McDonald, Partner-in-Charge of the Atlanta office. “John is a nationally recognized lawyer with decades of experience and a strong reputation in labor and employment law. He especially adds strength in traditional labor, which has been a strategic priority for our Labor & Employment group. Bryan’s broad experience brings not only expertise, but also more flexibility to our group. Additionally, there are synergies between their practices and our litigation, immigration, employee benefits and executive compensation practices. This is a great start to what will be an even busier year for us in many ways.”

Wymer, who represents employers of all sizes throughout the United States in a wide range of labor and employment disputes, has served as lead counsel in over 85 reported cases in 42 states, appearing regularly in state and federal courts and before the NLRB, EEOC, U.S. Department of Labor and other administrative agencies. He represents clients in matters involving employment discrimination, non-competition and trade secrets, harassment claims and investigations, representation elections, wage and hour disputes, labor negotiations, employee benefits and ERISA. He also litigates labor arbitrations and unfair labor practices cases, as well as advises on union campaigns and collective bargaining negotiations. For decades, Wymer has run the most well-attended labor and employment CLE program in Atlanta, and he is regarded as one of the most well-respected lawyers in the Atlanta labor and employment bar. Wymer has received many industry recognitions, including induction into The College of Labor & Employment Lawyers as well as into Law Dragon’s Corporate Employment Lawyers Hall of Fame. He is also ranked in the top band in Chambers USA for Labor & Employment in Georgia and for three years was named one of the top 10 lawyers in Georgia by Atlanta Magazine.

Stillwagon advises on a broad spectrum of issues affecting the employer-employee relationship and assists in resolving employment disputes through litigation, arbitration and mediation. He defends employers against claims brought by plaintiffs and the EEOC under Title VII, the ADEA and the ADA, as well as in individual and collective action claims under the FLSA. He also represents companies and high-level executives in lawsuits involving the enforcement of employment agreements and restrictive covenants. Stillwagon is a frequent presenter at labor and employment seminars, and he’s been named a Rising Star by Super Lawyers since 2015. He is also a longtime volunteer and advocate for Pro Bono Partnership of Atlanta.

“Thompson Hine’s Atlanta office and the firm’s strong Labor & Employment practice were a huge draw for us,” said Wymer of the duo’s decision to join the firm. “For years, I have known of the work of Tim McDonald and others in the firm. Our practice shares a common focus with the firm’s, and the Thompson Hine platform will greatly benefit our clients. We were also attracted to the firm’s focus on innovation in client service delivery, particularly the emphasis on transparency, efficiency and value. In addition, we were impressed with the firm’s diversity as a whole and in its management ranks.”

Other recent additions to the Atlanta office include Sherman Golden and Leah Singleton.

Golden is senior counsel in the Commercial & Public Finance group and focuses on municipal finance, project finance, public-private partnerships and EB-5 foreign investor capital transactions. He has significant experience with structured real estate finance and capital formation, including tax-exempt and taxable municipal bonds, synthetic equity through the monetization of available federal and state tax credits, and exempt securities offerings.

Singleton, counsel in the Employee Benefits & Executive Compensation practice, advises a broad range of clients on all aspects of employee benefits and executive compensation plans, including their design, implementation, maintenance, correction and termination, as well as ongoing compliance with applicable laws such as ERISA, the Internal Revenue Code, PBGC, HIPAA, COBRA, GINA and the Affordable Care Act.
