Valassis Employees Keep Season of Giving Alive All Yearlong

NCMEC, Toys for Tots and Community Organizations are on the Receiving End

LIVONIA, Mich.--()--Valassis, a leader in activating consumers through intelligent media delivery, takes great pride in the breadth and depth of the team’s efforts to give back to our local communities, not only during the holidays, but throughout the year.

In 2018, the company further strengthened its commitment and enabled the team to give more generously by introducing a new program that provides its employees time off to do community service. The “Give Back” program encourages teams to volunteer during business hours to charities of their choice. For instance, earlier this year, over 80 Michigan-based employees joined forces with Life Remodeled, a non-profit that rebuilds Detroit neighborhoods. Similarly, employees from NCH Marketing, a subsidiary of Valassis, donated time to the Old School Lake County Forest Preserve, collecting seeds to restore natural habitats.

“We share the passion our employees have for giving back to the community and to help them help others, we introduced the ‘Give Back’ program,” said Cindy Walker, Senior Vice President, Human Resources, Valassis. “We are inspired by their volunteer efforts both at work and outside of the office as well as their commitment to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC).”

Since 1985, Valassis’ Have You Seen Me? ® program has featured the names and faces of missing children across its portfolio, leading to the recovery of 161 missing children – including two in 2018 – as a direct result of its products. New in 2018 was the Have You Seen Me? 5K Run in Fairfax, Virginia, sponsored in part by Valassis and Clipper Magazine, a Valassis subsidiary.

Each year, at its Mountville, Pennsylvania headquarters, Clipper Magazine employees are dedicated to making a difference in their community, readily giving time, food and needed items during their annual “Pay it Forward Day.” At this year’s event on Dec. 7, 15 organizations including Humane Pennsylvania, Mount Joy Community Food Bank, Bridging Homelessness to Housing and more benefitted from their generosity. In addition, Clipper Magazine employees wrote holiday cards to police, fire and EMS first responders in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Throughout the year, this team also supported community events such as Save a Warrior 5K, March of Dimes Walk and the Race Against Racism. The Mint Magazine team participated in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s and McKenzie’s Run, to name a few.

Toys for Tots is another organization that has been on the receiving end of Clipper and Valassis employees’ generosity with office lobbies transformed into toy lands this time of year. At its Michigan locations, over 1,300 toys were donated.

Valassis’ volunteer-led Giving Committee supports organizations across the country, allocating funds to 60 charities in 2018 such as the Kids Coalition Against Hunger, Adopt-a-Classroom, Angels of Hope and to the American Red Cross for hurricane relief. The Giving Committee also hosts fundraisers throughout the year to benefit NCMEC. In 2018, over 250 golfers took part in the 12th annual NCMEC golf outing – the most successful one to date.

This fall, the company’s Culture Club organized a “Stuff a Bus” event with more than 10,000 school items donated to a Romulus, Michigan school.

Joining efforts in 2018 with its parent company, Harland Clarke Holdings, Valassis also participated in the 2018 United Way “Heart of the Community” drive.

“Giving is embraced year-round at Valassis from letting no missing child be forgotten to the hundreds of organizations where our employees make a difference,” said Wayne Powers, President, Valassis. “I applaud our team’s ongoing support of NCMEC and to give where there is a need.”
