Symantec’s Cloud Access Security Broker and Data Loss Prevention Solutions Receive FedRAMP “In Process” Designation

DHS to sponsor the company’s cloud and data-level security products through the authorization process

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--()--Symantec (Nasdaq: SYMC), the world's leading cyber security company, today announced it has received an “In Process” designation from the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP) for its Cloud Access Security Broker (CASB) and Data Loss Prevention (DLP) solutions under sponsorship of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

Named a leader by industry analysts, Symantec’s CASB solution enables agencies to confidently leverage cloud applications and services in a safe, secure and compliant manner. It provides visibility into shadow IT, enforces governance over data in cloud applications and provides protection against threats targeting cloud accounts and applications. Symantec’s DLP solution offers a single console and unified policy management for every channel – cloud, endpoints, storage, email and web – to help protect sensitive data wherever it is used across these channels.

“Symantec remains committed to helping government agencies protect their most valuable asset – their data,” said Chris Townsend, vice president of federal at Symantec. “We understand the unique challenges our federal customers face and are making strategic investments to help them securely and confidently migrate to the cloud. Getting our products FedRAMP authorized shows our commitment to the government and positions us a trusted partner and advisor.”

An “In Process” designation indicates that a Cloud Service Provider (CSP) is actively working on the documentation and controls required to achieve a FedRAMP authorization, and that an agency is reviewing that documentation with the intent to provide an Authority to Operate that meets the FedRAMP requirements. CSPs deemed as “In Process” are placed on the FedRAMP Marketplace, which highlights cloud service offerings with FedRAMP designations.

CASB and DLP are the latest Symantec offerings to go through the FedRAMP authorization process. In February, Symantec’s Email Security Service – Government received FedRAMP authorization, and Symantec has a roadmap established for its other cloud security tools and products to go through the FedRAMP certification process.

Symantec’s strategy is to help customers meet the challenges of the cloud generation through its Integrated Cyber Defense Platform, unifying policy for both cloud-based applications and on-premises tools and technologies. This enables a cohesive approach to risk management, providing needed visibility, context and control to achieve a higher security baseline for the government. Symantec plans to deliver this capability on AWS GovCloud at the moderate baseline.
