Dallas Housing Authority Highlights Housing Support Available for Our Veterans and Receives Recognition from HUD for Its Work to Help End Veterans’ Homelessness

DALLAS--()--The Dallas Housing Authority (DHA) honors our nation’s Veterans and shares a reminder that housing and supportive services are available to them through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) program.

The HUD-Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) program combines Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) rental housing assistance for homeless Veterans with case management, clinical services and other supportive services provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Starting in 2008, HUD and VA have awarded HUD-VASH vouchers based on geographic need and public housing agency administrative performance. HUD recently awarded DHA additional VASH housing vouchers and recognized DHA with a certificate of appreciation for “continuing to provide great service towards ending Veterans’ homelessness” as part of the eighth annual HUD-VA Risk to Resilience Summit.

DHA provides housing support to more than 700 Veterans each year and was recently awarded 120 HUD-VASH Housing Choice Vouchers to expand its support for homeless Veterans across North Texas. DHA has 126 Housing Choice Vouchers available for eligible Veterans to apply for now.

“We consider it a privilege and an honor to receive federal resources that enables DHA to continue to serve and support our Veterans ensuring that they reside is stable, decent, affordable housing. We appreciate HUD’s recognition of DHA’s contributions to homeless Veterans who have faithfully served our country,” says Troy Broussard, president and chief executive officer of DHA. “The service these Veterans have provided to preserve our freedom inspires us to serve them in their time of need.”

Veterans in need of rental housing assistance should contact their case manager at their local Veterans Affairs Medical Center. The case manager will refer eligible Veterans to DHA.
