Merida Capital Partners Names Danny Moses to its Investment Committee; Announces Promotion of Daisy Mellet to Partner, along with Three New Hires

NEW YORK--()--Merida Capital Partners (Merida), a cannabis-focused private equity fund, announced that Danny Moses, a private investor and entrepreneur best known for his role as a trader navigating the global financial crisis as chronicled in The Big Short, has been named the third independent member of Merida’s six-person Investment Committee. The firm also announced three additional hires and the promotion of Daisy Mellet to Partner.

Joining Merida in 2017 as Chief Administrative Officer, Mellet has been instrumental in driving the private equity fund’s daily operations, continued growth and flow of communications with portfolio companies, investors and Merida’s strategic partners, said Mitch Baruchowitz, Managing Partner of Merida. “Daisy’s ability to manage our internal investment process and external communications is a testament to her achievements and hard work and her elevation to Partner is well-deserved.”

Prior to joining Merida, Mellet helped launch Seawolf Capital, LLC, a long/short equity fund based in New York City where Mr. Moses was also a Managing Partner. Ms. Mellet first served as an Investor Relations Manager and eventually as the fund’s Chief Operating Officer. Before joining Seawolf, Mellet was an Associate in Operations at FrontPoint Partners from 2006 to 2011. Mellet holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and Political Science from St. Joseph’s University and a Masters of Arts degree in Liberal Studies from the New School for SocialResearch.

Merida also announced the hiring of three new additional investment team members. Kevin Fickle, an entrepreneur who was an early investor in CannaRoyalty (CRZ.C) and New Age Beverage (NBEV), joined Merida as its second West Coast Partner. Kevin holds a BA in Finance from San Diego State University and studied International Business and Politics at the University of Oxford in England. Fickle has been featured as an expert in news outlets, including Bloomberg, CNBC, MSN Money and thestreet.com.

Merida also announced that Mina Mishrikey, an entrepreneur in the cannabis space and former Deutsche Bank investment banker, has joined the firm as a Director. Mishrikey holds a Bachelors of Science from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Maxwell Gerard has also joined Merida as an Analyst and comes from Greensill Capital, a leading provider of private supply chain finance. Gerard holds a BA in economics from Haverford College. Mishrikey and Gerard will be responsible for working with the Merida investment team in performing investment target due diligence, investment structuring and portfolio analysis. Merida now has 12 full time employees and a total team of 15 professionals.

Commenting on the new team additions, Baruchowitz added: “Identifying top talent is fundamental to our core growth strategy as we remain focused on building a top investment team in cannabis. With a focus on high-conviction investments in leading companies that have crossed the ‘fragmentation gap’, our ability to find professionals who can manage risk while supporting our portfolio with executive expertise is crucial.”
