The new American Express Gold Card and limited edition rose gold Card

NEW YORK--()--American Express Company (NYSE:AXP) today announced a newly refreshed version of its popular Premier Rewards Gold Card, which will now be called the “American Express Gold Card.” Designed for consumers who live life on the go, the Gold Card offers Card Members rich rewards in the areas they care about and spend in the most - food and travel.

“We designed the new Gold Card to reward our Card Members’ growing appetites for dining out, eating in and traveling near and far,” said Rachel Stocks, executive vice president of Global Premium Products & Benefits, American Express. “Our Card Members increasingly want to experience new cuisines and explore new places, so when creating this new product, we focused on adding value in these areas, like the new dining credit and 4X points accelerators at U.S. restaurants and supermarkets. This is just another way that we strive to have our customers’ backs during the moments they value most.”

4X THE PERKS FOR FOOD LOVERS

Beginning today, consumer Gold Card Members will enjoy even richer rewards when dining out or eating in. The new Gold Card now offers 4X Membership Rewards points at U.S. Restaurants, as well as 4X Membership Rewards points at U.S. supermarkets (on the first $25,000 in purchases annually). These enhancements are double the Card’s previous earn in these spending categories. The new Gold Card also offers a new $120 annual dining credit which gives enrolled Card Members up to $10 per month in statement credits when they use their Card at any of the following dining partners: participating Shake Shack locations, The Cheesecake Factory, Ruth’s Chris Steak House and Grubhub/Seamless.

ELEVATED TRAVEL BENEFITS

In addition to these new dining and food benefits, the Gold Card offers membership, at no additional cost, to The Travel Collection by Travel Leaders Group. Gold Card Members who enroll in this recently-introduced benefit can access value-added discounts and amenities when booking eligible flights, hotels, car rentals, escorted tours and vacation packages.

New and existing consumer Gold Card Members can continue to enjoy the great travel benefits currently offered on the Card, including:

  • 3X Membership Rewards points on flights booked directly with airlines and amextravel.com
  • $100 airline fee credit: up to $100 in statement credits per year for incidental expenses like baggage fees at one selected airline
  • The Hotel Collection: Gold Card Members get a $75 hotel credit on qualifying charges, plus a room upgrade upon check-in, when available, when they book a stay of at least two consecutive nights at hotels in the collection
  • Personalized Travel Service: provides access to a team of Travel Professionals who can help with travel bookings and vacation packages across air, hotels, transportation, cruise and tour

CHIC NEW METAL CARD DESIGNS

American Express is also elevating the look and feel of the beloved Gold Card, by introducing a new sleek metal design. New Gold Card and existing Premier Rewards Gold Card Members will also have the opportunity to request a limited edition rose gold version of the Card through January 9, 2019.

AMEX PICKS UP THE TIP FOR NEW GOLD CARD MEMBERS

American Express is welcoming new Gold Card Members with a special limited time welcome bonus that further rewards their dining adventures. For new Card Members who apply for the Gold Card through January 9th, 2019, American Express will help “pick up the tip” by offering 20% back in statement credits on dining purchases at U.S. restaurants, up to $100 per Card account, during the first three months of Card Membership. Additionally, this limited time offer will be coupled with the opportunity to receive 25,000 Membership Rewards points after spending $2,000 on eligible purchases with the Card in the first three months of Card Membership.

TOAST TO THE NEW GOLD CARD WITH THE INFATUATION

To celebrate the new Gold Card, American Express is partnering with the popular restaurant discovery platform, The Infatuation, to host a series of experiences and events for Card Members and consumers. As a key sponsor of The Infatuation’s EEEEEATSCON New York food festival on October 6th, American Express will host Card Members and festival-goers at the #AmexGold lounge, where guests will get access to limited-edition gold #EEEEEATS giveaways in celebration of the new Gold Card.

Additionally, American Express and The Infatuation are hosting coast-to-coast #AmexGold dinners exclusively for American Express Card Members at top restaurants across the country. Locations and dates include:

  • Chicago: October 18
  • Los Angeles: November 8
  • Washington D.C.: November 28
  • Austin: December 6

Starting today, existing American Express Premier Rewards Gold Card Members and new Gold Card Members will receive these refreshed benefits.

The new Gold Card now has an annual fee of $250, up from the Premier Reward Gold Card’s previous fee of $195. The new fee will go into effect for current Premier Rewards Gold Card Members beginning April 1, 2019 on their account renewal date.

Additionally, with these changes, the current 2X Membership Rewards points on spend at U.S. Gas Stations earn will be no longer be offered on the Gold Card. Current Premier Rewards Gold Card Members will continue to receive this benefit until October 4, 2019, when this benefit will be discontinued.
