NAPERVILLE, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Consulting, engineering and construction services firm Atwell is pleased to welcome Aaron McAlexander, MS as Project Manager, Environmental Services. Based in Atwell’s Naperville, Illinois office, McAlexander is responsible for building Atwell’s environmental practice in the region, managing project resources, leading his team’s project quality control, and maintaining project budgets and schedules for renewable projects throughout Illinois and the Midwest.
McAlexander brings more than 11 years of experience with wildlife and fisheries field studies working with bats, birds, butterflies, and anadromous/freshwater fishes. His areas of expertise include bat surveys and studies, field surveying, data management, analysis, and scientific writing. As an experienced project manager for wind and solar projects throughout the Midwest, he excels in strategies with avoidance/minimization to Threatened and Endangered species and compliance strategies for clients. McAlexander also has extensive experience collaborating with U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) and state agencies with project design and survey strategies, particularly as they comply with the USFWS Land-Based Wind Energy Guidelines (WEGs).
McAlexander earned his Master of Science in Biology from Texas Christian University, where he tested an attraction hypothesis investigating bat interactions and behaviors in proximity to wind turbines. He is a federally permitted bat biologist with extensive experience performing field studies for various bat species, including federally-listed Myotis sodalis, Myotis septentrionalis, and Corynorhinus townsendii virginianus. McAlexander earned his Bachelor of Science in Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences from Purdue University and has experience with fisheries surveys and management, habitat assessments, and freshwater aquatic invertebrate surveys.
