Jackson Releases Second Stories Photo Essay Collection

Inspiring “life after work” testimonials illustrate the power of purpose;
complement revolutionary Retire on Purpose program

NASHVILLE, Tenn.--()--Jackson National Life Insurance Company® (Jackson®) today announced the release of Second Stories, a thought-provoking photo essay book capturing 10 inspirational stories from individuals who transformed their post-career lives in unexpected ways. Designed in partnership with photographer Fred Siegel, Second Stories depicts how people are revolutionizing retirement by courageously beginning new chapters — along the way, they’re discovering their passions and living their true purpose.

Second Stories is a fascinating depiction of how the traditional idea of retirement is evolving,” said Dan Starishevsky, senior vice president, Distribution & Advisory Marketing for Jackson National Life Distributors LLC (JNLD), the distribution and marketing arm of Jackson. “These 10 stories point to a new, exciting opportunity during life after work — while the typical ‘9-to-5’ was largely about paying bills, the second story is about pursuing passions and engaging in meaningful activities. It really makes you think, what’s next for me?”

Jackson’s partnership with photographer Siegel reflects a second story in itself – capturing these photographs represents a departure from his own career. Similarly, Bob Oswaks, one of the subjects in the book, describes how he reinvented himself as an artisan baker after being laid off from his role as president of worldwide marketing for Sony. Oswaks claims he has now found his true calling, and he’s happily fulfilling his purpose — sharing the love of bread and the good life with his customers in the small town of Los Alamos, Calif.

Second Stories is only one component of Jackson’s larger Retire on Purpose platform, which introduces financial advisors and their clients to the power of purpose in retirement. By highlighting the importance of connecting meaningful life planning with savvy financial planning, the program is designed to help advisors build more valuable, holistic practices through purpose-driven financial plans.

“As a company, we understand a fulfilling retirement is about more than just money,” Starishevsky said. “It’s about having a meaningful reason to get up every day. If we can influence people to discover that for themselves, then we’re helping them achieve success and find a ‘new rich’ in retirement — one that serves well beyond their portfolios.”

While developing the Retire on Purpose platform, Jackson worked with several third-party experts, including America’s preeminent executive life coach and purpose pro Richard Leider. According to Leider, if you have a pulse, you have a purpose.

“At its heart, purpose is compassion in action — it’s always about service to others,” Leider said. “Purpose represents a strong feeling of wanting to contribute to life, to others and to the community. Purpose is not a goal, but rather it’s an aim — the aim is to make a difference, to make a ‘dent’ in the universe.”

In addition to Second Stories, Jackson’s Purpose program boasts the following components:

“We broadly introduced the program to our sales force and advisor partners earlier this year, and the feedback across the country has been exceptional,” Starishevsky said. “While these concepts are mainly presented to pre-retirees, the program truly is audience agnostic. Purpose is essential to well-being, and that’s a powerful message that resonates with everyone.”

Jackson is committed to providing education, resources and value-added programs to help advisors build their businesses.
