Sheppard Mullin Adds Seasoned International Arbitration Partner in Washington, D.C.

Joseph LoBue Brings Complex Global Experience to Firm

WASHINGTON--()--Joseph J. LoBue has joined the Washington, D.C. office of Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton LLP as a partner in the Business Trial practice group and as a member of the firm’s International Arbitration team. LoBue joins from Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson LLP, where he was a member of the firm’s International Arbitration, Aerospace & Defense and Intellectual Property practice groups. LoBue is the sixth lateral partner to join Sheppard Mullin’s Washington, D.C. office this year.

"Joe adds impressive depth to our international arbitration team, particularly in the oil and gas and aerospace sectors," said Jon W. Newby, Sheppard Mullin’s vice chairman. "We continue to expand our international arbitration capabilities to better serve client needs on both coasts, and Joe is an excellent addition given his formidable experience in both commercial arbitration and investment disputes."

"I am excited to join Sheppard Mullin, a highly respected global firm. It's great to be practicing with friends and rejoining some of my former colleagues, and adding to the firm’s already formidable international arbitration capabilities. Sheppard Mullin’s global litigation group with its experience in the energy, aerospace and industrial sectors, offers a strong platform for my practice," added LoBue.

Leveraging his engineering background, LoBue represents clients primarily in the aerospace, oil and gas, energy infrastructure, industrial, telecommunications and government contracts industries in a wide range of complex matters in both arbitration and traditional litigation. LoBue’s recent engagements have ranged from advising a French avionics manufacturer in a patent infringement arbitration involving night vision systems, to representing an oil exploration and production company in ICC arbitration relating to offshore oil exploration rights in West Africa and a major international energy company in ICDR arbitration relating to the termination of a contract for LNG importation and regasification services in the United States.

LoBue received a J.D., magna cum laude, from Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law and a B.E. from The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art. Prior to attending law school, LoBue served as an officer and aviator in the United States Navy and retired as a Commander from the United States Navy Reserve. LoBue has served as an international arbitrator and has been recognized as a leading lawyer in the area of International Arbitration by Legal 500 and Expert Guides.

Also this year, the Washington, D.C. office welcomed partners Christine Clements to the Healthcare team, Denise Giraudo to the Labor and Employment practice, Joe Jay to the Government Contracts, Investigations & International Trade practice, and Ken Wiseman and Mark Sundback to the Energy, Infrastructure and Project Finance team.
