Texas Online Preparatory School Welcomes Students for 2018-19 School Year

Students Return to Online Public School on August 15

HUNTSVILLE, Texas--()--Students at Texas Online Preparatory School (TOPS), a full-time online public school, will begin their 2018-19 school year on August 15, simply by turning on their computers. Authorized by the Huntsville Independent School District, TOPS serves students statewide in grades 3-12.

Combining innovative technology with a rigorous curriculum led by state-certified teachers, TOPS offers each student a personalized learning experience.

Accredited by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and AdvancED, TOPS provides learners with a rigorous education. To attend, students must have met a minimum passing standard on the previous year’s STAAR scores, have had 90 percent attendance during the previous school year, been promoted to the next grade level, and show proof of prior Texas public school enrollment. In addition, high school students must be on track to graduate.

TOPS excels in helping students reach their academic goals, setting them up for success in college and beyond. The school offers robust programs for advanced learners, including Pre-AP and Advanced Placement® courses for high school students, as well as dual credit opportunities, where qualifying students can take college courses.

“Our unique approach to personalized learning, combined with innovative technology and dedicated teachers, helps students become empowered to learn,” said Forrest Smith, head of school at Texas Online Preparatory School. “TOPS also provides students the tools necessary for them to become equipped for success. We believe it’s our responsibility to equip and empower students in both learning and life.”

Students in all grade levels take a full course load across the core subjects of English/language arts, math, science, and history, as well as world languages, art, music, and electives. The dedicated state-certified teachers at TOPS facilitate lessons during live, interactive online classes, and interact with students and families via phone, email, web-based classrooms, and online discussions, which allows them to build close partnerships with parents and students to support academic success. The online platform enables students to enjoy a safe learning environment while connecting with classmates and teachers from across the state.

Throughout the school year, TOPS fosters a sense of community through in-person field trips, social outings, and service learning opportunities. TOPS also celebrates graduating seniors with an in-person commencement ceremony in the spring. Additionally, virtual clubs and student organizations allow students to further explore their interests together in the online setting.

TOPS is still accepting enrollments for this fall. Interested families are encouraged to attend online information sessions hosted by the school. To learn more, visit tops.k12.com or download the K12 enrollment app for iOS and Android devices.
