Nevada Virtual Academy Begins 10th School Year on August 13

Students Return to Online Public Charter School for 2018-19 Academic Year

LAS VEGAS--()--Students at Nevada Virtual Academy (NVVA), an accredited online public charter school, will begin the 2018-19 school year on August 13, simply by turning on their computers. NVVA begins its 10th year of operation serving Nevada students statewide in kindergarten through 12th grade.

NVVA provides families and students an alternative to traditional brick-and-mortar education. Students enroll in online school for a variety of reasons, including advanced learning, a bullying-free environment and the ability to balance their education with extracurricular pursuits or medical needs. Combining innovative technology with a rigorous curriculum led by state-licensed teachers, NVVA offers each student a personalized learning experience.

“Nevada Virtual Academy could not be more perfect for my son’s needs,” said Tina Olsen, whose son Logan is a bilateral amputee and a rising first grader at NVVA. “We’re able to go to doctors’ appointments without missing school, and I am able to play an active role in his education. And his teachers are out-of-this-world outstanding – not only do they provide instruction and encouragement for Logan, but they are so supportive of me as his learning coach, as well.”

NVVA offers a blended learning program that combines online learning with face-to-face instruction and support. The school has blended learning sites in Las Vegas and Reno where students can meet and engage with a state-licensed teacher in person in addition to the virtual education.

Students in all grade levels take a full course load across the core subjects of English/language arts, math, science and history, as well as world languages, art, music and electives. High school students can take honors and Advanced Placement® courses. Additionally, the school’s dual credit program, in collaboration with the Nevada System of Higher Education, offers qualified juniors and seniors the opportunity to earn college credit up to an associate degree while enrolled at NVVA.

NVVA’s dedicated teachers facilitate lessons during live, interactive online classes, and interact with students and families via phone, email, web-based classrooms and online discussions, building close partnerships with parents and students to support academic success. The online platform enables students to enjoy a safe learning environment while connecting with classmates and teachers from across the state.

NVVA is currently accepting enrollments for some grade levels for this fall. Interested families are encouraged to attend online and in-person information sessions hosted by the school. To learn more, visit nvva.k12.com or download the K12 enrollment app for iOS and Android devices.
