Broward Health North Recognized by Florida Hospital Association for Infection Prevention Through Strive Program

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.--()--Broward Health North (BHN) has been recognized by the Florida Hospital Association (FHA) for participating in the States Targeting Reduction in Infection via Engagement (STRIVE) project, which focuses on infection prevention practices.

Comprised of 37 hospitals across Florida, the STRIVE initiative emphasizes general infection prevention and control practices to reduce the following healthcare-associated infections (HAIs): clostridium difficile infections (CDI), central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSI), catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTI) and Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) bacteremia.

FHA reported that in a 12-month period participating STRIVE hospitals collectively achieved greater than 20 percent reduction across all four STRIVE focus topics, with the greatest improvement being CDI at 40.3 percent.

"We are delighted to join the state of Florida in this effort to promote infection control," said Broward Health President/CEO Beverly Capasso. "This recognition represents the many ways in which Broward Health is committed to providing high-quality patient care to all those we serve."

Broward Health hospitals remain engaged in various FHA initiatives to reduce HAIs, such as the SOAP UP campaign that focuses on implementing appropriate hand hygiene strategies to reduce the spread of infection.

STRIVE is a national endeavor, funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the American Hospital Association. More than 300 hospitals across 28 states have received professional coaching and access to resources to reduce HAIs through this program.
