Proteintech Announces Winner of 2018 Best Postdoctoral Mentor Award

Callie Kwartler recognized by peers for exceptional laboratory management

ROSEMONT, Ill.--()--Proteintech, the benchmark in antibodies, today announced the winner of the 2018 Best Mentor – Postdoc Category. Receiving hundreds of votes, Callie Kwartler of The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston has been awarded $1000 towards her research.

Callie Kwartler was one of five postdoctoral fellows from over 250 entries across the globe selected for public voting. Callie is a model of selfless mentorship as one nominator mentioned, “When I joined the lab a year ago and my house flooded during Hurricane Harvey, she helped me find stability in balancing work and the move out of my house. She has been a constant support throughout the year as both a mentor and a friend, and I strive to become a mentor like her in the future.”

“She has helped me learn to think through scientific questions and make sense of confusing data. She is a gifted teacher, helping myself and others to take our science a step further. She is constantly providing invaluable advice and insight to me and the other trainees in the laboratory. Despite her busy schedule, she takes time out each day to answer questions and provide advice, and sometimes just a good pep talk,” another nominator noted.

“Callie is a great reminder that science is about people as much as it is about data,” Dr. William Olds, Scientific Officer at Proteintech, said.

Proteintech supports the careers and development of scientists through a variety of initiatives, including annual travel grant competitions, mentorship awards, and a career podcast, The Incubator (available on Itunes).
