HERNDON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--K12 Inc., the leading provider of online curriculum and school programs for students in pre-K through high school, and C2 Education, a tutoring, test-preparation, and college admissions counseling organization operating more than 180 centers, have joined forces to make Advanced Placement® (AP®) courses accessible to more students around the nation. This unique partnership makes C2 Education the first K through 12 tutoring company in the U.S. to leverage K12’s innovative technology platforms to expand its Advanced Placement offerings.
“This innovative collaboration between online education and brick and mortar tutoring centers creates a unique blended learning opportunity that will open doors to a brighter future for a new population of high school students,” said Peter Waller, CEO of C2 Education. “By combining K12’s expertise in providing digital education with C2 Education’s hands-on instructional resources, barriers to rigorous, college-level classes are removed, offering students important opportunities to gain the knowledge and skills that colleges and universities value.”
High school students benefit significantly from the competitive edge that Advanced Placement courses deliver. Research from the College Board also shows AP students are more likely to complete their degrees on time, saving the costs of a fifth year of college, which can range in price from $20,000 to $45,000. Conversely, of students who don’t take AP courses, only 30 percent complete their college degrees in four years. Many students lack access to AP courses, either because their schools don’t offer them, or because students may not qualify for the courses at their high school.
“At K12, it is our belief that every student, regardless of geography or personal circumstance, should have access to an education that maximizes their academic potential,” said K12 Senior Vice President of Private Pay and International Schools, Russ Roselle. “We’re thrilled that through our K12 International Academy program, students at C2 Education centers now have access to AP courses, ensuring they develop a high school record that sets them apart from their peers during the college admission process.”
Twelve AP courses, including Calculus, Statistics, English Literature and Biology, are now offered at C2 Education tutoring centers in the following locations:
- Dublin, CA
- Monrovia, CA
- Rancho Cucamonga, CA
- San Ramon, CA
- Scripps Ranch, CA
